AFC loses Thika game, slapped with huge fine

Thika United have been awarded three points accompanied with two goals in their abandoned Kenya Premier League (KPL) tie against AFC Leopards with the latter being slapped with a fine of Kshs. 500 000 to be paid by Friday 20 June 2014.

Club Organizing Secretary Timothy Lilumbi confirmed the development and said that they have also been ordered to pay the fine in a months time.

-We have lost the game and handed a fine of Kshs. 500 000 with Thika awarded 2-0. We have to pay the fine in a month’s time, Lilumbi told futaa.com

The decision was reached at by the Independent Disciplinary and Complains Committee (IDCC) that is made up of professionals who are not involved in the football circles.

IDCC

The IDCC, having held a hearing on the above matter on this 20th Day of May 2014, hereby holds that:

1. AFC Leopards SC failed to control its supporters thereby causing abandonment of the match contrary to Rule 3.4(a) and (b) of the Rules of Kenyan Football 1998.

2. Thika United FC is hereby awarded the match on a 2-0 score and 3 points.

3. AFC Leopards SC is hereby directed to pay a fine in the amount of Kshs 500,000/- within 30 days from this decision.

The IDCC shall issue a reasoned ruling on this matter on the 30th of May 2014.

Both teams

Both teams had their representatives during the hearing with each giving their side of the actuality. By the time of abandonment, Thika were leading 1-0 courtesy of Dennis Odhiambo goal in the 14th minute.
