Live Below the Line, So That Others Can Rise Above It

Live Below the Line

There are 1.2 billion people worldwide who live below the extreme poverty line. That means 1.2 billion people live on less than $1.50 a day for all of their basic needs — food, water, shelter, healthcare, clothing, and education. As a result, they lack opportunities and the power of choice, leaving them vulnerable to situations of trafficking, exploitation, and abuse.

This is why SMF is proud to be part of Live Below the Line, an innovative awareness and fundraising campaign challenging participants to live on only $1.50 a day for food and drink for five days (April 28 – May 2) to raise awareness of the 1.2 billion people who live in extreme poverty. It is a movement of passionate people willing to make a meaningful and simple sacrifice for those who need it most.

By joining the challenge and supporting the Somaly Mam Foundation, you will raise funds and awareness to help fight the trafficking and exploitation of vulnerable women and girls in Cambodia.

Just $25 can provide one month of vocational training for a survivor, helping her develop the skills needed to escape extreme poverty and develop her own means of support. This in turn has a greater impact on society as a whole, as survivors return to their communities as empowered economic agents of change, challenging long-standing cultural norms that promote the oppression of women and girls.

Sign up to Live Below the Line, take the challenge, and be part of the movement to end the trafficking and exploitation of women and girls.
