Governor Helen Kilpatrick receives a gift of Caymanian art and fruits from nine-year-old Juan Pablo Velario at the Owen Roberts International Airport on Friday, 6 September. On hand to welcome the new governor were Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, Premier Alden McLaughlin and the Police Commissioner David Baines.

Governor-designate Helen Kilpatrick arrived in the Cayman Islands this morning to take her new position in the Cayman Islands.

Ms Kilpatrick then proceeded to the Legislative Assembly, where she was sworn in as the new governor, succeeding Mr Duncan Taylor CBE, whose tenure ended in July.

Contrary to earlier press reports, there was no inspection of a guard of honour at the airport, although the new governor saluted the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.

A reception in honour of Mrs Kilpatrick takes place at Pedro St James this evening.
