Oscar Pistorius: My version of events. Brilliant summary of what athlete wants us to believe

Figuring out, from afar, what Advocate Gerrie Nel has been trying to achieve in the Pretoria High Court where athlete Oscar Pistorius is on trial for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp is challenging. We’re probably confused because we aren’t lawyers steeped in the nuances of South African legislation. We will soon hear the narrative that Nel has attempted to piece together in his effort to get Pistorius convicted for shooting his beautiful girlfriend. No doubt, his adversary Advocate Barry Roux will present a different account. In the meantime, one creative trial-watcher offers a wry interpretation of the Oscar Pistorius “version of events”. – JC

By Donmack*Pistorius sits in court ahead of his trial in Pretoria

Anyone who still believes Oscar Pistorius (OP) is innocent has to believe that the following scenario is credible:

1. Reeva happily goes to bed, having packed all her clothes neatly away in her bag, including her underwear and the top she was wearing, while leaving her jeans inside-out at the bottom of the bed.

2. OP wakes in the night and immediately puts his hands over his face. He takes them off long enough to glance over and notice Reeva’s legs under the duvet. He then puts his hands back over his face to get out of bed – pushing aside a duvet that is not actually on him.

3. He walks around to Reeva’s side of the bed, without either looking at her or telling her what he’s doing. She doesn’t ask, either.

4. Once his back is completely turned, Reeva silently scrambles across to his side of the bed and walks totally noiselessly and in the pitch black to the toilet.

5. Never once facing the bed, OP brings both fans in and positions them at the end of the bed. How he did that with his back to the bed the entire time, I am unable to fathom. He either stood with his back to the bed, and put the fans in front of him and then walked around them, or positioned them with his arms behind him.

6. In spite of the pitch-black room, he notices jeans on the floor. He is bothered by a small LED light enough to want to cover them with said jeans – but not bothered by the lit-up LED display, the light on the TV or the lights on the light switches.

7. He hears a terrifying sound from the bathroom and is frozen with fear. At no point does it cross his mind that it may have been the person sharing the bedroom and bathroom with him making the noise – nope, he’s so convinced it can’t be her, he doesn’t even bother to turn his head and glance in her direction.

8. He doesn’t seek to clarify what he’s heard with his awake girlfriend who is feet away from him. He doesn’t wonder if she heard it too and is scared.

9. He feels particularly vulnerable because he’s on his stumps, but doesn’t take a few seconds to put on the legs that are, actually, right next to him.

10. He stops being frozen with fear and heads for his gun, making his way around the fans that he has just positioned in front of the bed. He holds into the bed for balance, and says not-a-word to the person who is in it regarding the fact that he believes that there are intruders in the next room and he needs to arm himself.

11. He reaches under the bed for the gun, careful not to glance across at the person he believes is in it.

12. He stands up, faces the passage and whispers/speaks quietly to Reeva, telling her to get down and call the police without actually telling her why. He is not surprised that she doesn’t ask or that she doesn’t bother to get out of bed and get down as instructed.

13. He makes his way in terror to the bathroom – ignoring the door that he and Reeva could have escaped through and the panic alarm that would have brought immediate help.

14. He’s so desperate to put himself between the intruders and Reeva that he doesn’t actually check where Reeva is.

15. He is too scared to put the light on but not too scared to start screaming as soon as he starts walking down the passage.

16. He is walking slowly and quietly down the passage, screaming.

17. Reeva hears the screaming but is too scared of the intruder to respond and give away her position, so she slams the door.images-2

18. OP screams at Reeva to call the police. She fails to do this even though she has her phone with her.

19. OP gets to the bathroom doorway, and stops screaming so that the intruders won’t know where he is.

20.When he sees that there’s no one in the bathroom, he starts screaming again.

21. Reeva stands facing the door, making no effort to speak to her screaming boyfriend – who is now standing right outside the toilet door. She doesn’t wonder if he wants to come into the toilet and hide with her; she selfishly hides, silently locking the door and says nothing.

22. Somehow she steps backwards to knock the magazine rack on the other side of the toilet before immediately stepping forward again to the position she was in when she was shot.

23. OP has many thoughts running though his head – a story about a neighbour being tied up in his house, the crime rate in SA, the builder leaving a ladder outside his house, the folly of shooting a warning shot into the shower in case it ricochets and hits him, but a noise from the toilet has all thoughts disappearing from his mind like a fart in the wind and he shoots once, moves position and shoots three more times without actually meaning to….all the while screaming.

24. He stands screaming for a bit, then walks backwards out of the bathroom screaming.

25. He gets to the bedroom, screaming, and is a trifle surprised to see that Reeva is not sitting in bed after hearing four gunshots from the en suite bathroom.

26. He heads across the bed backwards, keeping his eyes on the passage….she’s not there. He walks along the gap between the bed and the curtains; she’s not there. She’s not behind the curtains either.

27. Gasp. Was that Reeva in the toilet? He doesn’t even bother checking to see whether she’s run out of the bedroom – that would be a ridiculous thing to do given that the shooting was in the bathroom, so he sees no sense in even checking (yes, he actually said that).

28. He runs with his gun back to the bathroom and tries to pull open the door – he’s still scared it may be an intruder, and hopeful it’s not Reeva, but he doesn’t bother checking to see if there’s a ladder outside the window.

29. He runs back to the bedroom, parts the curtains and shouts for help from the balcony….holding a cocked gun in his hand because he’s still scared.

30. He puts down his gun, sits on the bed, looks for his socks, puts on his legs then picks up his gun again to run to the bathroom – all in the pitch black because he tells us he never opened the curtains or put on the light.

31. Kicking the door doesn’t work, so he runs back for his bat. He then runs back to the bathroom with a cocked gun in one hand and a cricket bat in the other.

* Oh, I almost forgot – throughout all of this he is screaming like a woman, except when he goes onto the balcony to shout for help in a man’s voice.

All of the above takes him 15 minutes

32. Back in the bathroom, he puts down the gun and hits the door three times with enough ferocity that six people think they are gunshots. Four of those people had slept through the real gunshots 15 minutes earlier – seemingly not bothered by a sound 1000 times louder than the sound that they are hearing now.

33. Once he breaks down the door and sees Reeva bloody and not breathing, he is as silent as a monk. No more screaming – he is too “sad” to scream anymore.

34. In spite of screaming at Reeva to call the police three times, it doesn’t occur to him to do the same himself now.images-6

35. He sits sobbing over her, then pulls her against him, feeling her blood run on to him – although it only manages to stain his shorts and forearms.

36. He is so distraught by Reeva’s condition, that getting medical help for her is not his first thought….calling a friend is.

37. He psychically knows that Netcare will tell him to get Reeva to hospital himself so he calls Stander to help him lift her so he can do this.

38. He then calls Netcare to be given the worst medical advice of all time – to take a woman who has been shot three times, once in the head, to hospital himself.

39. He calls Security for help, then sobs down the phone to them. When they call him back, he forgets to ask for help and tells them he is fine.

40. He runs downstairs, careful to switch off the alarm first and opens the door, crying.

41. Coming back upstairs he smashes his way through the bedroom double-doors before simply unlatching them.

42. He carries Reeva through the bedroom, leaving a dissected line of blood that is half on carpet and half on the duvet on the bed – which the police can handily line up later making it look like the duvet was on the floor all along and that OP is one enormous great big fat liar.

I could go on, but my dinner is ready.

I am starting to think that anyone who truly believes this man is innocent is slightly divorced from reality. It’s the biggest load of bullcrap I have ever, ever heard. Seriously.

I think this entire thing has been over dramatized, this has been I common topic of discussion in the classroom at my school and the verdict should actually be quite simple. The man shot his girlfriend, he murdered her. Plain and simple, he goes to jail for x number of years and that’s the end of it. Why does it have to go on and on like this. It is actually quite sad the way the case has been handled.

  • Colsh

Point No. 9 – I was under the impression every agreed he shot through the door while on his stumps not on his prosthetics????

  • Hendrik Wiewilweet

She was doing yoga and he was watching porn. When she got into bed she saw what he was doing and that sparked an argument. She got up and went to make while considering her next move. She made a snack as well. The after haveing a snack she went back to the bedroom and dtarted packing her bag. He wanted to stop her and they argued. He threatened her with the cricket bat and se ran to the toilet locking her self in. She threatened to expose him for waht he is. He tried to break down the door with the bat and she screamed for help. He could not get toe her and heard her phoning someone for help. He thought he could not let this become public and fetched his gun.

    State’s Version of Events

Despite being terrified of Oscar because of his selfish, jealous, controlling ways (and the fact he had a thing for rabbit figurines), Reeva asked if she could spend the evening with him at his house and stay the night on the evening of the 13th February 2013.

Even though she just wasn’t that into him she brought him a Valentines day card (that professed her love for him despite the fact she didn’t) & a present and offered to cook him a Valentines meal the following evening.

Oscar agreed to the plan and met Reeva at his house around 6pm.

The rest of the evening consisted of an intermingling of arguing, eating, peeing, web browsing, phone calling and masturbating.

At some point an unexplained (one-sided) argument broke out between the couple and continued into the early morning hours of the 14th February 2013. All phone and iPad activity stopped promptly around 10.30pm inferring this is when said argument began.

Perhaps frustrated by the fact Oscar remained completely silent for the duration of said argument Reeva took time out to rustle up a stir fry at 1am.

Due to the hypoglycaemia she was most likely experiencing (from having such a late dinner) she agreed to join Oscar in his bedroom despite being in the throws of such a terrible argument with him.

Not caring who could hear their argument the couple continued to argue with the balcony doors and bathroom window open. It was a very warm night and the air con was broken but they did not take advantage of the fans because there wasn’t enough free space on the extension lead for both fans and they didn’t want the other fan to feel left out.

Coincidently the argument experienced a lull at the exact moment the guards were carrying out their checks at the guard activation point outside Oscars house at 2.22am.

Sometime around 3am the argument escalated and Reeva decided she wanted to leave so she took her clothes off in a hurry and put her pyjamas on. Oscar supported her decision to leave by shouting “Get the Fuck out of my House!!”. Whilst attempting to leave Reeva took a wrong turn and ended up in the toilet.

It is at this point (aprox 3.02am) three mysterious unidentified bangs were heard coming from Oscars house by several neighbours, which for all intents and purposes did not actually happen.

It is unclear whether it was these mysterious noises or the argument itself that caused Reeva to start screaming very clearly from the enclosed toilet for the next 15minutes.

Despite her obvious distress Reeva did not use the cell phone she had with her in the toilet to call for help. Nor did she open the toilet window and call out to the neighbouring houses.

Instead she waited patiently for Oscar to make his next move, taking advantage of her surroundings she relieved herself in the process.

Oscar choosing not to put on his prothesis suddenly experienced an onset of Tourette’s syndrome which caused him to shout out Help Help Help!! He then picked up his firearm and walked slowly to the bathroom on his stumps.

Perhaps fuelled by his annoyance that Reeva didn’t get the fuck out of his house, Oscar engaged in a short conversation with Reeva through the bathroom door before discharging his firearm four times through the door at 3.17am with the intent to kill Reeva.

Following the shots Oscar went into the bedroom and put his prothesis on then ran to the bathroom and kicked the door. He then went back to the bedroom and removed his legs again and picked up his cricket bat and carried it to the bathroom. Oscar then broke the door down very quietly. So quietly none of the neighbours heard despite the bathroom window being open. He then pulled Reeva from the bathroom all the while maintaining full balance on his stumps. He then went back to the bedroom and put his prothesis on again and phoned Stander at 3.19am. All of which he achieved within a record breaking 2minute time period, a performance more impressive than his Paralympic gold.

Despite wanting Reeva to die he then phoned for an ambulance and carried Reeva downstairs in an attempt to help her.

He also phoned security because he didn’t want them.

Once the police arrived Oscar began challenging his inner actor and turned on the water works. Making a mental note to himself to hire an acting coach for his trial. Despite his lack of coaching he gave a convincing performance even managing to vomit on cue.

The police secured the crime scene and collected evidence in a controlled and professional manner. Maintaining the integrity of the evidence at all times despite forgetting to wear protective footwear, touching crucial pieces of evidence without gloves, trampling over arguably the most important piece of evidence, moving items prior to photographs being taken whilst searching for clues and helping themselves to anything shinny. However the crime scene was definitely not compromised, contaminated disturbed or tampered with.

I have woken many times in my marriage thinking my wife is in bed and she is not , I never look across to see if she is there and I am always trying to be as quiet as possible, if I woke in the night and heard something I would never wake the person next to me, in fact this very thing happened to my sister in Cape town , 10 years ago , she lay as still as possible and did not wake anyone else for fear they would make a noise , they had a machette to her throat in the end , all 6 people in the house kept as quite as possible while they were woken up one by one by the gang who had just decapitated the next door neighbour.

  • BWhit

I completely believe he is guilty, and a genuinely narcissistic and horrible person . But logically speaking, whether he knew it was Reeva or not – he shot to kill. He knew exactly what shooting through a door into a room that small would result in. He’s a killer and I hope he’s brought to justice!

  • Stefan Hauptfleisch

As I’ve said many times before..he killed Reeva execution style..no where to hide..what an absolute coward..!!..4 times he fired to end a brilliant life..

  • MissCilla

I LOVE this! Alec, you’re my hero….made all the points so clearly!!!
That ignorant, arrogant little boy needs a major reality check….

  • Rat

His hot temper and jealousy finally got the better of him, time to put him away before it happens again.

  • Louise Patterton

Even if he walks, he’ll end up in a similar scenario in years to come. Mark my words…..might not be a gun, might not be a bathroom…but it will involve a female partner, and it is not going to end pretty.

  • Jeremy David Acton

Just put him away for life. One shot could have been a mistake. Four shots is only murder.

  • Rat

Excellent! It makes me wonder how there can be people out there who actually believe him! It is so improbable, that it cannot be even slightly reasonably true!!

  • Dr Who

It is for the judge to decide but for me on the evidence presented (leaving aside for now the GAD “defence” which awaits proper analysis and decision) Oscar was at the very least reckless in firing through the locked toilet door and as such is guilty of murder. He may not have directly intended to kill Reeva but his actions were calculated or could foreseeably have resulted in the death of a person, he reconciled himself to this and acted regardless. The GAD scenario if properly diagnosed and proved will literally permit Oscar to get away with murder, our own OJ in the making albeit minus the race element. Only two people really knew what happened that fateful morning, one of them is dead, the other a less than convincing narrator mindful mostly of his own fate.

  • tayfrost93

I believe that Reeva and OP were having an argument and she was packing her bag *which was found in OP room* and she proceeded to the bathroom to get her toiletries and she obviously said something to him which caused him to snap and he went and got his gun in a complete fit of rage and followed her into the bathroom. He then screamed at her “to get the f#*k out my house” while pointing a cocked gun in Reevas face *he said he screamed this at the apparent intruder in his testimony*. Reeva then locked herself in the toilet.
Reeva was an intelligent woman *she had studied and completed her law degree* if she had another way to escape the “intruder” or , as I believe, a raging OP she would have escaped that way. I believe OP blocked the way to get out the bathroom and she wasn’t able to get out so she made the choice to lock herself in the toilet. This is obviously all my opinion but I do believe he is guilty as sin

  • jo

Have you ever been scared beyond belief? Do you know how you would react?

    • Rat

yeah you walk around screaming and wielding a loaded gun in the air.

  • NotbuyingOPcrap

I believe Pistorius is lying and he is doing a terrible job. He is probably an extremely difficult client who is “calling the shots,” and making a mess of his defense. He arrogantly told reporters the proposed mental exam was “a joke,” and look where he is now! Oh, how he must be hating those mental exams.

If they are genuine, his courtroom antics clearly indicate he has no self-control. Or, if they are not genuine he has calculated poorly, and badly misjudged his audience. I believe he is getting very little sympathy. He is a grown man and he should act like one, instead of a sniveling child. He makes me want to reach for a “sick bucket” every time I see and hear him.

This supposedly rigidly-disciplined, finely honed athlete has ruined his own life. No more races, sponsors, accolades, endorsements or medals. No more fast cars, fancy living, celebrity, preferential treatment and perhaps worst of all for him…NO MORE FIREARMS! He is disgusting and deserves the harshest possible punishment.

  • Lisa

Pure brilliance! Completely share he same view!

  • users66

Well put together. I think his whole story makes no sense at all. I think they should let him play it out in his own home, so everyone can see more clearly that it makes no sense.
And for the people saying if Reeva was scared she could have fled to the balcony, well, maybe she wasn’t scared at all. Maybe there was no fight that evening and she didn’t know what was comming. Maybe she just went to the bathroom, he followed her when she was there, and at the moment she wanted to come out, he shot her.
Because she was not hiding in one of the corners in the bathroom, but was standing right in front of the door and she had an empty blatter. (another thing that makes no sense in OP’s story, since he didn’t hear the toilet flush.
Maybe that’s why he’s sticking with his story that she didn’t eat anything after diner. Maybe he made sure she did eat and drink something later on, so she would need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Oscar said to the family that when she went to sleep that night, she felt loved. Maybe that’s the only true thing he said.

    • Ritainnj

His version is so improbable no one can believe it…she could have fled to the balcony on the second LEVEL ??she was not about to commit suicide and jump down! 2 stories! To run out of his bedroom to safety? as per his evidence his bedroom double doors were locked and he had that cricket bat on the floor up against the door and cabinet to assure no one got in or out!! The bedroom scene clearly indicates that Reeva and him were not calmly asleep..Duver cover on the floor along with her Jeans inside out, all of his ipads thrown on his side of the bed, the fans clearly never plugged in anywhere or moved from where they were found….

      • Otto

He had a STEROID RAGE!! They argued and he killed her in an uncontrollable rage. What happened to the evidence that was initially mentioned to news reporters shortly after the incident by the police at the scene? They mentioned (amongst other things) a vial and syringe found lying in the bathroom basin. This was later referred to as homeopathic medication and later disappeared from the evidence collected completely. The crime scene was contaminated and re-arranged to create reasonable doubt. We know he killed her, but reasonable doubt around the circumstances of that night could change the sentence from 1st degree murder to Culpable Homicide. That can relate to the difference in sentence of a minimum 25 years in prison to 3-5 years, and out in 2. (Many athletes use steroids in the off-season)

  • oscar fan

Omg! We know he killed her! It’s the circumstances surrounding what happened that is in question. He did not plan to kill her.

    • James

You only think so because youre a fanatic.

      • Chrislyn Naude

You would NOT be saying that if it was your daughter that got murdered.

    • Ritainnj

yes, he did not plan to kill her but he did shoot thru that door knowing it was her behind it…it was a moment of anger with no return…

      • Rat

he did want to kill her, because the could speak about what he had already done…he is an abuser and she would have let the whole world know. He had to stop her from phoning the police so he shot knowing it would be devastating, they were hollow point bullets, only a psycho uses guns that need black talons.

    • Clara Bow

OP is a sniveling sorry excuse for a man & his “version” is so improbable no one could possibly believe it was true. OP has anger/rage issues & he lost it & knew EXACTLY who he was murdering that night. RIP Reeva Steenkamp – you did not deserve to die by the hand of this sorry excuse of a human being.

    • Rat

yes he did, he KNEW it was her in the toilet. You can’t prove otherwise to make it seem reasonably true.

    • Nuhaa

Yes we understand that. Can’t you see that this whole article is about, according to Oscar, what happened before and after he killed her? AKA the circumstances surrounding what happened? There is no way in the world that anyone could ever believe that this murder wasn’t planned, and horribly executed. And, by some bizarre miracle, if his version is true, he is the lowest kind of man to not ONCE even think to check if Reeva was in the bed. He wanted to get between her and the ‘intruder’? There’s no doubt in my mind he was trying to save his own ass.

    • Michael Henry

Yes you are correct. It was not premeditated murder. It was however 2nd degree murder or at the very least 3rd degree murder. The absolute lies being proven will show this.

    • EaDiot

To quote the article “I am starting to think that anyone who truly believes this man is
innocent is slightly divorced from reality. It’s the biggest load of
bullcrap I have ever, ever heard. Seriously.”

  • Ekekiel

Most women fear rape above all when there is an intruder (perceived or otherwise). Whoever has had to hide from a potential rapist would know to seek the security of a locked door as opposed to an OPEN balcony. Hiding and keeping quiet would be the best option – no??? On the other hand, if bf is fighting – then the balcony, stairs or window would be a good option – with car keys in hand.

    • oscar fan

I’m with you on this one! Well said Ekekiel.

    • James

Bathroom seems safer from a raging boyfriend to me. So you guys are saying yiu agree with the sequence of events above? Wow.

    • Ritainnj

are u forgetting that they were ‘arguing’ for about 1 hour prior??

    • Chrislyn Naude

Regardless of where she hid, HE SHOT HER!!!!!! Do not try and put the blame on her omg! Like do you realize how thick you sound right now??

    • Chrislyn Naude

Okay because blaming her does not make you sound thick at all right now lol… And when you in a state of fear, you do not think with a clear mind. You go for the first thing that would seem safe. And what you are implying is that if she didnt want to get killed she should have found a better hiding spot? Until it is one of your family members in Reevas position hey…

  • pam

well if Reeva was so scared why did she not just run out onto the BALCONY through the OPEN BALCONY doors and scream for help?? That was her closet access and she did not use it? Einstein!

    • Bt

Einstein, seriously???? Open balcony doors? Closest access?? She was locked in the Toilet, not the bedroom! Sometimes people should keep their opinions to themselves, it is a sure tell!

    • Ritainnj

There were ear witnesses (burger/johnson) who heard
female yell ‘help help help” followed by male voice ‘help help help”! listen to the evidence!!

    • Rat

she needed to get out of his reach, einstein, go figure…

  • David Peterson

You can believe what you want mate, he’s innocent!

    • Dee

Innocent? So who shot her then, the ‘burglar’?
Let’s forget about Reeva for a second…You reckon he’s also innocent of the Tasha’s shooting and the ammo charge? Both of those are serious enough to land a person in jail.

    • James

People were adamant OJ Simpson was innocent too…

    • Ritainnj

      Innocent of WHAT?

    • Clara Bow

Innocent how? Who are these people who believe this? OP has blamed everyone on the planet for what happened that night. He has thrown his dead mother under the bus allowing her to be called a drunk. OP now claims to have a mental disorder because of his disability but has spent his entire life claiming to be equal to any other person. What blinds people to the self-serving, entitled behavior of a person who refuses to take responsibility for his any of his actions. His crying, puking & sniveling has made him an embarrassment in front of the entire world – he acts like a little girl. The world is watching & there must be justice for Reeva. RIP Reeva Steenkamp we will remember you & forget the coward that murdered you.

    • Rat

…and you believe what you want and stay in your dark hole.
