PUBLISHER’S
                                   n o t e

Mr. Jeffrey Beall, a tenured librarian, earns a grade of D
                               for his scholarly initiatives performance
University of Colorado – Denver, earns a grade of F
for lax adherence to recommended code of conduct, and
for work to implement ACTRP’s recommended tenure policy

Aforesaid grades reflect performance in relation to handling Academic Exchange Quarterly,
AEQ, concerns. Moreover, the two grades indicate quality of performance as defined by
the Board of Regents and Advisory Committee on Tenure-Related Processes ACTRP.

Noticeable failures are: ignorance of the subject at hand, disinterest to follow policy guidelines
thoroughly, indifference to address problems promptly and completely, lack of cohesiveness
( e.g. working toward the same mission), and reward systems don’t match the university values.

For details read AEQ email [1] and postal correspondence [2] with University of Colorado,
plus observe Mr. Beall’s qualifications for tenure. [3]

We at AEQ have spent a good amount of time contemplating fairness and meaning of grades
D and F. In addition to explanation noted at the top, below are other specifics.
  • Grade D is for effort and good intentions, however, Mr. Beall does not know better.
  • Grade F is for failure to assess, oversee and support or end said effort and intentions.
To this effect University of Colorado – Denver has failed and not Mr. Beall. [4]
Grades D and F, to put it simply, reflect lots of problems in scholarly publishing but probably
even more in academia!     What do you think?

Sincerely,

Publisher, Academic Exchange Quarterly
