Communications Rebel turns 1 this January. And what a year it’s been! Looking back at the first year of my new brand, I can say that there were some unexpected developments and frankly, some goals I failed to reach. (Or at least I thought so…)
People in the United States are celebrating Thanksgiving this week. The annual holiday dates back to 1621 when the Pilgrims celebrated a harvest festival. Today, we still give thanks for the blessing of the harvest.
Giving thanks to the food on our table is one thing. But I want to encourage you to extend your gratitude on to other blessings in your life. Ask yourself what else are you harvesting now that is the result of you planting seeds much earlier this year or the year before?
There are conferences, and there’s the World Domination Summit – also lovingly called WDS. This 4th of July weekend, I attended the 2013 World Domination Summit. It was the 3rd time I made the journey from Los Angeles to Portland to meet close to 3000 fellow WDS attendees and to listen to amazing speakers that would share their insights on how to live a remarkable life in a conventional world.
Like the 2 times prior, I was transformed by the end of the conference. Now, saying that one is transformed is a pretty serious statement. But I’m not kidding. I truly feel I left Portland a different person. And I was not the only one. I saw Problogger Darren Rowse leave as Superman. (Don’t believe me? Check out the photo from the event!)
I launched Communications Rebel six months ago, in January 2013. A good time to look back on what the rebel tribe has accomplished so far. And a perfect time to say THANK YOU to all who’ve supported the evolution of the rebel spirit and to those who’ve been kicking my butt into action over the past months.
Sometimes I like to experiment, don’t you? It’s fun because you never know what comes off it. Remember those science experiments back in high school that almost got the whole school on fire because you couldn’t figure out how to use a Bunsen burner?
Yep. This week, I’d like to play with fire a little bit (in a sense) and participate in Chris Guillebeau’s social experiment which is all about helping someone for free.
This post will be a little different.
My birthday is almost here. I’m usually excited about celebrating my bday and the awesome life I have, but this year I’m particularly thankful to have lived another happy, healthy year. Why?
As I attended the 2012 World Domination Summit in Portland, Oregon, I saw Scott Harrison – founder of charity: water – speaking on the main stage about his journey from New York nightclub promoter to humanitarian. Scott’s story is fascinating (you can see an interview with him here), but what’s more – I haven’t forgotten what Scott told us that day:
Millions of kids around the world don’t live to see their fifth birthday because they don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water.
We can help change that.
Valentine’s Day is upon us and with it millions of e-valentines and paper love notes to our loved ones. But what if you took the opportunity this Valentine’s Day and wrote a love note to yourself?
Too often, we think of others first – our family, our partner, clients, friends, our dogs and cats – before showing some appreciation for our own awesome accomplishments, especially when it comes to our business. Take a minute and think about it – what are the things that make you fall in love with your business this Valentine’s Day?
What does a 100 dollar bill have to do with a rebel? Let me explain.
In July 2012 I attended the 2nd Annual World Domination Summit in Portland, Oregon. And if you think summit = conference = boring lectures, you’re totally on the wrong track. WDS is a summit like no other. It’s where remarkable people from all over the globe come together for a weekend of unconventional idea exchange and inspiration.
Think non-stop meet-ups. Think lots of a-ha moments and tears of joy. Picture 1,000 people singing Journey’s “Don’t stop believing” together. Extra loud. (Try it for yourself – sing along to Journey’s live performance above and feel an instant boost of confidence!)
