The Alice House: ISL’s local watering hole

alice house

With its quirky light fittings, retro brick interior and chunky wooden furniture and outdoor sun deck, The Alice House on West End Lane has proven to be a hit amongst our residents. The drinks menu offers a selection of innovate cocktails and craft beers, while the food menu includes delicious brunches, light bite and hearty British classics. The sun deck is open till late, it’s no wonder that this bar is full every Thursday – Sunday! All of this within a 5min walk to ISL.

Congratulations to our competition winners!

The University Of London Housing Fair was a huge day for us, the ISL Team spoke to hundreds of interested, excited students looking for accommodation, as you can imagine we’ve been rushed off our feet ever since. Over the course of the day we held our big competition give away, where three lucky winners were treated to an iPad, 2 x Wireless Festival Tickets and a £100 Selfridges Gift voucher. This week our excited lucky winners came to visit The ISL Team to collect their prizes!

The first three months open!

Wow! Time has flown by. It seems like just yesterday that we opened our doors for the first time to our fantastic 347 residents, welcoming them all to their new home. Feedback has been great over the last three months! Our communal areas in our cluster flats, which have played an important role in residents making new friends, have played host to Cinema Nights, Thanks Giving, Halloween and Christmas Parties, Football viewing sessions, Cook offs and everything in between! Our Gym, open from 6am-10pm, has help our residents burn off those extra post Christmas pounds and stick to their New Year’s resolutions! While the English weather was still nice, our beautiful inner courtyard provided a popular space for study sessions. Our Common Room played host to our massive Welcome Party (photos HERE) plus lots of very competitive Air Hockey games! It’s been an amazing first three months for the ISL Management Team and we’re looking forward to what the rest of the year has in store for our residents!

Testimonial from Nicole

Meet Nicole! Nicole will be studying for a MA in Events and Conference Management at The University of Westminster. Originally from Puerto Rico, Nicole did all of her research online and stumbled across Independent Student Living on the University’s website. Even though the building was incomplete when Nicole booked her studio, the ISL team provided her with all the information she needed to make a decision from abroad. We recently sent her photos of the studio she booked.

“I was very curious to see how the studio was going to look since the building is completely new and there were no exact pictures of my room. When I received the pictures of the finished studio I was not disappointed! It looks beautiful!! I didn’t expect it to be that spacious. I’m so excited and less nervous to move abroad now. The studio looks comfortable, clean cut and bright. I can’t wait to call it my home! :)”

Team ISL are looking forward to welcoming Nicole into our brand new building!

Testimonial from Heather

Heather from the USA, is one of our many international students and was one of our first residents back when ISL was just a building site. After finding out about ISL on Facebook back in March, Heather contacted us and spoke to the team here in West Hampstead over the phone and via email. Heather booked with us in April, deciding to take one of our Sub Penthouse Studios!

Heather has recently seen photos of her finished studio for the first time, “I think the studio is perfect! Beautiful and plenty of natural light! I am beyond excited to start my new adventure and so happy I will have such a beautiful place to come home to!!!”

Team ISL is super excited to welcome Heather and the other 346 students into our building in September!

David’s Deli

Price: £££££

With online reviews promising this is “definitely the best Deli in London!” “really the best deli in a neighborhood saturated with alternatives”, David’s Deli had a lot to live up to. This local cafe/restaurant has been serving up Middle-Eastern/Mediterranean dishes to locals for over 15 years. We visited David’s during the lunch time rush, we were met with a warm welcome, given a tour of their dishes and had food to try thrust into our hands…we felt right at home! All the food is home-made on the premises, with everything from salt beef sandwiches, selections of mezes, and some of the best falafel we’ve tasted, we’re sure this will be a winner with our residents! We left with a takeaway box stuffed with food for under £5! Even better news is that David’s Deli offers a 15% eat-in discount for everyone as ISL.

Congratulations to our Facebook competition winner!

We were very excited to announce our Facebook competition winner yesterday! Alistair was our lucky winner. He popped by the Independent Student Living show flat to pick up his brand new stylish Accurist Vintage watch! Alistair also received the grand tour from the ISL team. “I was amazed by how spacious the bedrooms and living areas are! There’s a real focus on big vibrant, colourful social spaces, something I’ve rarely seen in student accommodation”. Alistair has just graduated, so was understandably upset he isn’t eligible for our accommodation. We wish him all the best with his career!

Banana Tree West Hampstead

Price: £££££

Banana Tree has been serving up tastey budget food for over 20 years now. With inspiration from ‘Indochina’ cuisine, the menu scattered with dishes from Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore & Thailand, it’s kept the punters queuing up for more over the decades. With a young, vibrant, trendy atmosphere, where the food is washed down with Asian-inspired cocktails and beers we expect this to be a favourite with our ISL residents! We highly recommend the Chicken-stuffed ‘moneybags’, steaming bowls of laksa & the Thai green curry!
