The Jaws cycle has reached its nadir with this surprisingly tepid [Arrivision] 3-D version.

Gone are Roy Scheider, the summer resort of Amity, and even the ocean. They have been replaced by Florida’s Sea World, a lagoon and an Undersea Kingdom that entraps a 35-foot Great White, and a group of young people who run the tourist sea park.

The picture [from a screen story by Guerdon Trueblood] includes two carry-over characters from the first two Jaws, Scheider’s now-grown sons, who are played by nominal star Dennis Quaid as the older brother turned machine engineer and kid brother John Putch.

Femme cast is headed by Bess Armstrong as an intrepid marine biologist who lives with Quaid.

Director Joe Alves, who was instrumental in the design of the first Jaws shark and was the unsung production hero in both the first two pictures, fails to linger long enough on the Great White.
