Savor Food and Wine Recommendations Inflight on American Airlines Transcontinental Routes

Airline Introduces Food and Wine Pairings to Continue Focus On Enhancing The Customer Experience

For many years, passengers traveling in First and Business Class on American Airlines have known this to be true: nothing complements a delicious meal on a cross-country flight better than a glass of fine wine.

Beginning July 1 on American Airlines transcontinental flights, First and Business Class customers will be able to savor specific wine recommendations -- offered by American's new wine consultant Diane Teitelbaum -- with select premium cabin menu entrees. While the pairing of certain foods and wines together helps educate customers on the variety of wines American Airlines offers on its flights, it also demonstrates that American continues to enhance the onboard dining experience.

"As wine sales continue to grow in the United States, many of our customers have expressed interest in sampling new and different types of wine during their onboard experience," said Mary McKee, Managing Director -- Onboard Products for American Airlines. "We are utilizing Diane Teitelbaum's expertise in the food and wine industry to deliver a unique inflight dining experience to our premium passengers, especially for those desiring a wine recommendation for their entree."

American will expand the food and wine pairing concept to international flights later this year. The menu items and wine-pairing suggestions for transcontinental flights in July include:

-- Miso Chicken
- A grilled miso chicken breast served cold and accompanied by a tomato-basil potato salad.  To complement the entree,     Teitelbaum recommends a glass of Wente VS Sauvignon Blanc from Livermore Valley, Calif. because tomato, basil and chicken are a classic match to sauvignon blanc. The combination creates a crisp and fresh pairing. 

-- Beef Filet
- Tenderloin of beef enhanced by a miso demi-glace offered with cilantro potatoes, grilled asparagus and roasted tomatoes.     Teitelbaum suggests a glass of Treana Red from Paso Robles because the richness and texture of the wine matches and balances the beef  perfectly as the beef softens the wine tannins creating a lush, succulent velvet taste. 

-- Grilled Salmon
- A grilled salmon fillet served cold on a bed of linguini noodles and enhanced by a jalapeno and papaya relish.  Teitelbaum said a glass of Buena Vista Carneros Reserve Chardonnay is a  delicious complement to the meaty salmon and rich noodles. The tropical     fruit flavors in the wine will show off the papaya relish. 

-- Four Cheese Ravioli with Tomato Cream Sauce
- Ravioli pasta filled with four cheeses, complemented by a tomato cream sauce, sauteed onions and freshly chopped garlic. Teitelbaum recommends a glass of St. Francis Sonoma County Merlot, which has just enough richness to balance this dish while enhancing the complexity of the slowly simmered sauce.

In an effort to bring customers the finest wines available in First and Business Class, American maintains 15 different wine lists, which are specially selected for various routes. Earlier this year, American continued a tradition of receiving accolades for its wine program in the Cellars in the Sky 2006 Awards conducted by Business Traveller and Wine & Spirit Magazine.
