WNY FLASH SIGN EMMA KETE AND KRISTEN EDMONDS
Duo comes to Flash following stints in Australia and Russia, respectively

(Feb. 21, 2014) – The Western New York Flash announced today that the club has signed Emma Kete and Kristen Edmonds for the 2014 season. Kete will be added to the roster pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team and league policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

A New Zealand international, Kete recently wrapped up her second season with Sydney FC of the Westfield W-League, playing alongside fellow Flash forward Samantha Kerr. On the season, Kete scored four goals for the club, who bowed out during the W-League semifinals. The Auckland native was also a member of Sydney’s W-League Championship team in the 2012-13 season, and won the title the previous year as a member of Canberra United.

“Kete has done well for the past couple seasons with Sydney FC and wants to play at the highest level of women’s soccer,” Flash head coach, and New Zealand native, Aaran Lines noted. “It will also be nice to have a Kiwi, not only here at the club, but competing in the NWSL.”

Kete made her first appearance with the New Zealand Women’s National Team in 2007 and, in 2008, appeared in each of New Zealand’s group stage matches during the Summer Olympics. She has three goals in 48 games with the full national team.

In 2009, Kete’s professional career began when she signed with the Ottawa Fury of the Canadian W-League. Two years later, she signed with PK-35 of the Naisten Liiga where she won her first championship, as the team defeated Ilves 2-0 for the 2011 Finnish Cup. Kete scored the game’s second goal.

Edmonds comes to the Flash after a season with FC Rossiyanka of the Russian Supreme League where she registered two goals and seven assists in 13 appearances. The Metuchen, N.J. native also saw time in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, playing all but three minutes against VFL Wolfsburg during the two quarterfinal games.

“Kristen is a versatile player that brings in European experience,” Lines said. “She’s a good athlete and is someone that I believe can come in and give us depth at the outside back position.”

The season prior, Edmonds was with the New Jersey Wildcats of the W-League, her second stint with the team. She previously led the Wildcats to the 2005 W-League Championship and, in her return in 2012, led the league with 14 assists.

In addition, Edmonds played one year with Stjarnan FC, where she helped the team win the Pepsideild League Championship. She also spent two summers (2009 and 2010) as a member of the Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues of the W-League. The team was named Regular-Season Champions in both of those seasons, which saw Edmonds start all 25 games and be named co-captain in the latter year. In her two seasons with Quickstrike, she scored five goals and added five assists.

Edmonds gradated from Rutgers University in 2009. In her first year, she led the Scarlet Knights with 24 points on six goals and six assists. She became the first rookie to lead the team in scoring since 2001, when former Rutgers standout – and current Flash star – Carli Lloyd totaled 37 points (15 goals, 7 assists). She would go on to be named to the Soccerbuzz Mid-Atlantic Region All-Freshman Team.

After 78 appearances, Edmonds finished her career in New Jersey with 14 goals and 16 assists and, in her senior season, led the team again in points (16) on five goals and six assists.

Season tickets and Flex packages for the 2014 Flash season are now sale and can be purchased at wnyflash.com or by calling the Sahlen’s Stadium Box Office at (585) 454-KICK.
