England Beach Soccer [EBS] was formerly FTP Beach Soccer, and our involvement in the sport dates back to 2001. Having seen various events around the world and the future potential of the sport, FTP Beach Soccer ran the first participation Beach Soccer event in the UK in June 2002. The explosion of interest that followed was unbelievable.
In the three months following that first event, the now expanding company planned, promoted, organised and ran five further Beach Soccer tournaments and the UK’s first ever Beach Soccer League. Major sponsors of these events included Coca-Cola, Ford and Hilton Hotels. We also produced two full international players in our first season, who have both since broken a number of records.
Media coverage and support has been massive. TV coverage has come from Sky and ITV, and we have been on BBC Radio 5 Live and Power FM. Print media has included the Daily Mail, Front and Nuts magazines, and local press. Presence on the Internet has also been amazing, with links from hundreds of sites and numerous new beach soccer websites popping up all the time.
Over 40,000 people attended our events last summer. There are now over 1500 players [of all ages and both sexes] from 100+ teams who have taken part in one of our events. Many teams and players who took part in that first event back in 2002 are still playing today – and with our help and support, seven of them have now played for England.
The phenomenal success of our inaugural season and the ones that followed led to 2005, when FTP Beach Soccer took over as the official governing body of the sport within the UK, and became England Beach Soccer. Responsibilities include the England Beach Soccer team; a leg of the PBS (Pro Beach Soccer)/ BSWW (Beach Soccer World Wide) tour; promotion and development of the sport within the UK, and all other elements of this dynamic, vibrant, exciting - and still growing - sport.
Beach Soccer is officially recognised globally by FIFA, and nationally by The FA. The governing body of beach soccer is Beach Soccer World Wide. Please visit www.beachsoccer.com.
