Huelva

Huelvais situated at the estuary of the Rivers Odiel and Tinto and its history reaches back into pre-historic times. The Romans had a mint here so the archaeologists have found a great number of coins here, but unfortunately the majority of the Moorish monuments were destroyed by the earthquake in 1755.  The Rio Tinto mines have been operating as copper and silver mines since the ancient times.

According to local tradition, Columbus prayed in the Nuestra Senora Virgen de la Cinta Sanctury before sailing away with local sailors from Huelva. In the 19th century the British re-started mining and the town was flourishing. Monuments from these times are: Gran Teatro, Casa Colón, Muelle de Riotinto and Estación de Sevilla.
