Mass redundancies as Fraser Eagle fails

TROUBLED travel firm Fraser Eagle has called in the administrators – who immediately made most of the company’s 120 staff redundant. The Padiham-based business, which had expanded in recent years by offering specialist rail-replacement coach services, has come under widespread criticism for being slow in paying bills. Many operators also criticised the rates the company paid.

Accountants Baker Tilly in Manchester are handling the company’s affairs, and hopes to be able to sell parts of the business. Says administrator Lindsey Cooper: “It is regrettable that the majority of employees have had to be made redundant. There’s been initial interest in some parts of the business and we’re hopeful that a sale will be achieved.”

Last month the company laid off 50 employees, and earlier this month it closed its Malta call centre, with the loss of a further 50 jobs.

Adds Cooper: “The firm has been operating in a very difficult trading environment resulting in the loss of a number of key contracts. The business, for example, provides rail replacement services for a number of train operating companies. In recent times much of this has work has been taken in-house.”
