Charlie Wilson to Play White Oak Amphitheatre Saturday, July 27
Diamond Life Concerts has announced its Summer Soul Series will bring Charlie Wilson in concert to Greensboro’ s White Oak Amphitheatre on Saturday, July 27. Comedian Jay Lamont will open the show at 8 p.m.
Tickets will go on sale Friday, June 14 at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster, Ticketmaster outlets, charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000 or at the Greensboro Coliseum box office.
Wilson has made an unforgettable contribution to R&B, funk and soul music for nearly 50 years. As lead singer of The Gap Band and later a solo artist, he paved the way for many artists including R. Kelly and Snoop Dogg.
After 43 years of funk-filled hits and 15 albums, The Gap Band retired in 2005. After two solo albums, Wilson again gained success on the charts with the gold selling “Charlie, Last Name Wilson.” Wilson’s 2009 album “Uncle Charlie” - a nickname given to him by rapper Snoop Dogg - helped the iconic artist reach No. 1 on the R&B charts and No. 2 on the Billboard 200 (as well as earn two of his six post-Gap Band career Grammy nominations). In 2012, the album “Love, Charlie” debuted at No. 1 and featured the hit single “My Love is All I Have.”
Wilson has been celebrated for decades for his trailblazing career and he shows no signs of slowing down, performing 75 to 100 live shows a year. In 2009, he received the Soul Train Icon Award and Billboard’s R&B Artist of the Year. In 2013, BET will honor him with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
Comedian Jay Lamont has been cracking up audiences for over 18 years. He's been seen on BET's Comic View, Def Comedy Jam, Showtime at The Apollo, Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen, America's Got Talent plus many more.
