BERWICKSHIRE'S Lord Lieutenant, Major Alexander Trotter, is reminding recipients of British Empire Awards that they are entitled to apply for an Order of the British Empire emblem which was introduced last year.
Major Trotter has contacted everyone in Berwickshire that he knows holds an OBE, MBE, CBE, KBE/DBE, or GBE but is aware that there may be some people he missed.
Lord Lieutenants across the country have become aware that not many people who received one of the Queen's awards realise they can apply for an emblem of their award which they can wear on everyday clothing.
The emblem was introduced last year following recommendations from the House of Commons Public Administration Select Committee and Sir Hayden Phillips.
They felt that more should be done to increase public awareness of the honours and felt that one step would be for holders of honours to be able to wear a small emblem on everyday clothing.
The emblem is based on the badge of the Order, enclosed in a circle of ribbon of its colours, pink and grey.
