The 2012 Annual Wholesale Trade Report summary of changes PDF [29KB] provides comparability with previous surveys.
We identified two errors in the annual detailed operating expense tables (tables 5.1 and 5.1A) that were originally released on February 28, 2014. Corrected tables were uploaded to our website on March 20, 2014 at approximately 10:00 AM. Below is a summary of the errors that describes the industry levels and data items that were affected:
- An error in calculating total operating expenses for NAICS 4234 (Professional and Comercial Equipment and Supplies) led to the Detailed Operating Expenses, of U.S. Merchant Wholesalers, except MSBOs (table 5.1) estimate for NAICS 4234 total operating expenses (column C) being different from the correct total operating expense estimate found in Total Operating Expenses of U.S. Merchant Wholesalers (table 5). This error also resulted in incorrect level estimates (shown in the "Amount" columns) for all detailed operating expenses for NAICS 4234. Note that the 'Percent of total' estimates for each of the detailed operating expenses are still accurate. As a result of these errors, the aggregate estimates for NAICS 42 and 423 for total and all detailed operating expenses were also incorrect.
- The coefficients of variation for total operating expenses released in Detailed Operating Expenses, of U.S. Merchant Wholesalers, except MSBOs (table 5.1A ) were incorrect for all NAICS and did not match the correct values that were released in Total Operating Expenses of U.S. Merchant Wholesalers (table 5A).

Now Available Online: Additional Historical Monthly Wholesale Trade Survey Releases and Time Series! The "Monthly Historic Releases" page now contains archived pdf releases from 1936 through 2001 and excel files of corresponding seasonally adjusted and not seasonally adjusted Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) based time series estimates from 1967 through 2001.
API: The U.S. Census Bureau updated its Application Programming Interface with monthly and quarterly economic indicators. The API allows developers to combine Census Bureau statistics with other data sets to create tools for research on a variety of topics.
