Estonian Public Broadcasting (in Estonian Eesti Rahvusringhääling, abbreviated as ERR) is a legal person in the public law. It was formed on 1 June 2007 pursuant to the Estonian Public Broadcasting Act, passed by the Estonian Parliament on 18 January 2007, which merged the two formerly separate public service TV and Radio organizations. ERR is a legal successor of Eesti Televisioon and Eesti Raadio, thus assuming all their rights and obligations.
ERR is the member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

ERR has two TV channels (ETV and ETV2) and five radio stations (Vikerraadio, Raadio 2, Raadio 4, Klassikaraadio and Raadio Tallinn). ERR is also present in internet media with news websites in Estonian, Russian and English and with various thematic websites, including Raadioteater (radio drama), ERR Pood (online shop), etc.
ETV is Estonia’s biggest public service TV channel. It started broadcasting on 19 July 1955, and for decades it was the only channel in the country. ETV’s task is to promote and propagate Estonian national culture and record, introduce and preserve its best achievements, taking also into consideration the interests of minority groups. ETV offers interesting programming to all age groups viewers including popular daily evening news show Aktuaalne Kaamera; education, science, culture, lifestyle, current affairs and entertainment programs and sports coverage.
ETV2 is the second TV channel of Estonian Public Broadcasting. I went live on 8 August 2008 in time to broadcast Beijing’s 2008 Olympic Games. The channel has been digital from the beginning. After the Olympic Games of 2008 it offered children’s broadcasts and pop concerts in the evenings. Since 2009, ETV2’s programming consists of outstanding cultural and educational broadcasts, documentaries, TV shows and films. It has a special daily children’s slot and daily news broadcast in Russian.
VIKERRAADIO, the main radio program of ERR, was born on 3 April 1967. Vikerraadio can be listened to all over Estonia for 24 hours a day. Vikerraadio offers to its audience comprehensive information programs, opportunities for self-education and broadening one’s horizons, as well as entertainment. In Vikerraadio, music of Estonian origin is preferred. Many broadcasts of Vikerraadio are produced at the regional studios of ERR.
Audience research shows that Vikerraadio holds a stable position as one of the most popular programs on the Estonian radio landscape.
RAADIO 2, started on 1 May 1993, is a radio station for the young and energetic. Raadio 2 offers for younger generation something more than just chat and music doing that in an enjoyable format. Raadio 2 has lots of news - every hour and half hour, comments and interviews on topical issues. The difference of Raadio 2 compared to the other European public youth stations is bigger share of educational programs and commentaries.
Raadio 2 carries plenty of music - in the prime time mainstream music, as well as brand new songs that will be found in the top lists only weeks later. In the evenings alternative music targeted to specific audience groups is played, in the weekends Estonian music gets prevalence.
RAADIO 4 is among the most popular radio programs broadcast in Russian in Estonia. Raadio 4 is a modern and developing radio program which is ready to carry out projects also on the international level. As a result of a cooperation project with the Council of Europe, the Narva Studio of ERR commenced operation in 1996, broadcasting also local programs in Russian. Our News Service has news broadcasts every hour and there are summary news programs every day. Our analytical programs help you to understand the political situation and the recent developments. Our entertainment programs offer numerous games and contests and various prizes from our associates. The program of Raadio 4 features musical, literary, popular science and education broadcasts, labor exchange information and legal advice, exclusive interviews with film, music, theater and sports stars and interviews with eminent politicians. We work in close cooperation with professional musicians, therefore the music we offer - pop&rock or jazz, calssical or variety music - is always of the top quality.
KLASSIKARAADIO is the largest audience of all continuously operating cultural media-channels in Estonia. Starting in 1995, Klassikaraadio’s daily program initially consisted of six hours of classical music. In late 1998 Klassikaraadio began broadcasting round the clock, and since December 2003 our transmissions can be received on the FM waveband all over Estonia. Klassikaraadio’s present schedule features cultural programs and news as well as a wide spectrum of quality musics – from West-European classics to folk, jazz, world music and a separate series dedicated to progressive rock. The share of Estonian music in our program constitutes 20%.
Klassikaraadio’s audience has been stable over the ten years.
RAADIO TALLINN is striving to discover new music, step by step adding to the adult pop-rock music world music, jazz and soul classics. From 7.00 till 22.00 one can listen to non-stop music while working at the office, driving a car, sitting at the café or doing housework. Every full hour there are on air ERR radio news to keep the listeners informed on what is happening at home or abroad.
From 22.00 till 07.00 BBC and RFI programs are retransmitted on Raadio Tallinn.
Raadio Tallinn can be listened to on 103,5 MHz in Tallinn area and on the Internet.
