David Jones battles the elements to raise money

Whilst most of us have been enjoying the festivities, sat beside roaring log fires and indulging in delicious goodies, David Jones, co-owner of Manna from Devon Cooking School, has been fighting his way through almost constant wind and rain along the South West Coast Path. David Jones

David is currently walking the 630 mile long path to raise money for us. He is now close to his new target of £5,000.

Commenting on the walk so far, David says: “It really has been challenging. The weather has been atrocious. I have come across numerous landslides along the path and there have been places which, in normal circumstances, I would have chosen not to continue walking as they posed too great a risk.'

'I am now about two-thirds of the way through the walk and, since being in Devon, the weather has improved.'

He continues: “The fact that the money keeps pouring in for this extremely worthy cause has certainly been a fantastic incentive to keep going.” Both of David’s parents were affected by Motor Neurone Disease.

Speaking on behalf of the Association, Sarah Hampton, regional fundraiser team leader for the South West said, 'We are forever grateful to people like David who put their daily routine on hold to participate in such important fundraising activity. The funds raised will make a huge difference to people suffering with this illness.'David Jones and Sarah Hampton on Croyde beach

Since writing, David has raised a wonderful total of £9,000 for the MND Association, completing his walk within the original 25 day target.

On Wednesday 1 May at 7.30pm David will be hosting ‘630 Miles of Mud’ in The Flavel Arts Centre in Darmouth; a talk about his experiences of The South West Coast Path.

A special guest appearance will be made by David’s spaniel Rex, who accompanied him on this hugely challenging charity expedition.

Commenting on the talk at The Flavel, David said, 'I’m looking forward to sharing my experience with all on the 1st May. It also provides another opportunity to raise more money for this hugely worthy cause.'

Tickets can be bought on The Flavel Website (£5 each).
