My challenge to the Earth Hour community

Earth Hour’s challenge is no longer to connect people; the challenge is to offer a reason to connect. Any movement of change begins with symbolism - it’s a needed step to prove enough people care about an issue.

Earth Hour is past the beginning now, and lots of people are switching their lights off every year in March. We’re now at the stage of taking it beyond the hour.

I’m personally inspired by what I see happening around the world connected to Earth Hour, and the hour of “lights out” will always be a real moment of motivation for me.

But we’re in a very fortunate position thanks to the opportunity of digital and social media, so we need to capitalise on the chance of genuinely uniting people to protect the planet.

I Will If You Will gives every individual the opportunity to inspire their friends, colleagues and neighbours to take sustainability actions not just on the hour, but beyond the hour.

The more people can inspire their networks to change the world we live in, the bigger our efforts will be.

This week we are launching our I Will If You Will campaign, so I thought I’d share my own personal challenge with you.

I’ll get in the water with a great white shark if 10,000 people submit their own I Will If You Will.

Earth Hour has always been a brand for the people – it’s owned and powered by you.

So on that note, we’re throwing I Will If You Will over to you - I can’t wait to see what commitments and challenges this expanding global community can come up with.

Thanks for all of your support, and head to YouTube.com/EarthHour to find out how you can Dare the World to Save the Planet.
