Chris Harris, former licensed Senior Reactor Operator & engineer, Aug 21, 2014 (at 24:00 in): NHK just [broadcasted] that many studies are showing… that multiple cores — parts of it, or some, or even most of it — had been ejected. We thought that too. Once you breach containment, that was one of my big concerns — where did the core go after an explosion like? Whether it be steam or hydrogen explosion or a combination of both… it got ‘sneezed out’ all over the place. It’s totally – it’s a huge mess.
Marco Kaltofen, Nuclear Science and Engineering (pdf), presented at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, March 19, 2014: High Radioactivity Particles in Japanese House Dusts… The Fukushima Dai‐ichi accident released very high activity inhalable dust particles that travelled long distances… Airborne dusts can transport radioactive materials as isolated individual particles containing high concentrations of radioisotopes. Alpha and beta emissions related to fission wastes and dispersed fuel particles are hazardous when inhaled or ingested. Radioactively‐contaminated environmental dusts can accumulate in indoor spaces, potentially causing significant radiation exposures to humans via inhalation, dermal contact, and ingestion… a micron‐scaled particle [had] activity greater than 1.0 PBq kg [1 Quadrillion Bq/kg]. The par6cle was collected from a home in Nagoya, Japan. Nagoya is 460 km from the accident site… It contained both fission products and decay products of 238U… tellurium up to 48.0 %, cesium up to 15.6 %, rubidium up to 1.22 %, polonium up to 1.19 %, dysprosium up to 0.18 %, as well as trace amounts of Sn, lead, nickel, iron, and chromium… 226Ra, 134Cs, and 137Cs, 241Am, and 230Th [were] the most commonly detected gamma photon-emitting isotopes… about 25 % of dusts sampled [were] autoradiographically positive for hot particles… the majority of these hot particles were 10 um [micrometers] or less in size, meaning that they were potentially inhalable… Radioactively‐hot particles on the respirable size range were routinely detected, with one as far as 460 km [285 miles] from the release site.
Kaltofen (pdf): Radioisotopes in dusts released by Fukushima Daiichi units [include] Uranium and plutonium fuels and transuranics such as americium and neptunium… individual radioactive particles [in an] Ibaraki dust sample [include] Eu, Y, Zr, Th, Ce, Sr… in 1 to 15 um size range…
Kaltofen (pdf): The Japanese samples came from as far north as Sapporo in Hokkaido Prefecture and as far south as Tokyo, a range of 780 km. Fifty nine samples of dust from Japan were analyzed… Radioisotopes specific to the Fukushima Daiichi accidents, including Cs134, Cs137, and Co60 were detected in dust samples taken throughout Northern Japan, including areas more than 200 km outside of the accident exclusion zone. Cs134 was detected at all of the Japanese sites tested… Japanese samples… analyzed in the first month after the accident also contained I131 and Am241… Radioactive dust has become a ubiquitous part of life in northern Japan.

Water-borne nuclides from Fukushima are causing a general collapse of the Pacific Ocean Ecosystem after only 3 1/2 years.
The Frozen Wall cannot work because 3 underground nuclear cores are heating up groundwater, which will be too hot to ever freeze.
The flow rate of groundwater under the plant has been estimated to be 1,000 tonnes per day.
Flowing water cannot be frozen.
This is why cold weather residents are told let water trickle from a faucet during winter cold snaps, to keep the pipes from freezing.
It will probably take another two or three years for TEPCO to give up on the Frozen Wall project.
It will take another two or three years for TEPCO to decide what to try next, and get the groundwater diversion project underway.
Over that time, hundreds of additional species could be lost in the Pacific Ocean, due to excess radiation flowing from FDNPP.
It seems like we are waiting forever for the groundwater to be diverted around the reactor ruins.
This is something TEPCO knew it had to do from day one, back on 3/11/2011.
Still not accomplished.
Won't be accomplished anytime soon.
The "black substance" is soot from nuclear fires burning underground under 3 broken reactors.
This soot blankets Japan.
They will find out soon that human beings cannot long exist amid clouds of this nuclear fuel soot.
Japan is toast.

Answer:
Into the Ocean.
Right now, groundwater is washing over nuclear debris trapped in the walls of the corium lava tubes in the ground under Reactors 1-3.
As long as this happens, the groundwater is picking up bits and pieces of nuclear fuel debris, and depositing them into the ocean.
What is necessary is to divert the groundwater away from the area under Reactors1-4, and into the ocean before the groundwater becomes heavily contaminated by contact with nuclear debris.

It's pretty evident from the aerials how the original site flat they carved out would have no choice but to soak up groundwater like a darn sponge. (I'd read the design idea was that for reactors 1-4, the pumps might have problems if they weren't closer to sea level.) And weren't reactors 5 and 6 built later on higher terrain? Not sure about what got built when, but anyway….yes that Perfect Sponge sure doesn't need the extra groundwater from the higher surrounding elevations draining through it. Ugh.

If these particles were inhaled, many will get lung cancer. It is misleading to talk of background when people inhale hot psrticles.
Also, many do not know that radon may be pumped into your home from clean-burning natural gas.
Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and the second-leading cause among smokers and indirect (secondhand) smokers.

Wow, people are actually following and listening to Dana? He has no scientific background to be speaking on such topics and is simply a layman that can only provide observations which cannot be taken seriously.
Anyone would be a fool to donate money to this man. But alas there is a fool born every minute.
This is not to say there no impact yet to the Western shores of North America from the Pacific. There very well may be but he is not the man to be telling us (but on the flip side no government back scientist will do that).
I just find it hard to believe that anyone would give this man (and Kevin Blanch) any attention as he makes us, who are very concerned about Fukushima, look like nutbar crazy folks.

Dana is a veteran diver and has lived on the ocean or near it for far more years than most of us. These attributes qualify him for collecting information. He acknowledges he does not have the expertise to do this venture alone and is getting volunteer help as well.
It is unfortunate that anyone would try to portray Dana as anything other than a caring human being who is dedicating his life to finding out what is going on.

I fail to see how anything he is doing can be classified as "valuable activity". It is more like a waste of time and money and also causing unsubstantiated panic. Being a qualified diver does not make one an expert on the biological impact of radiation from an ongoing nuclear disaster. He has no ability to discern anything as being related to Fukushima….neither does Kevin Blanch.
I realize we are all extremely concerned about Fukushima (as I have said before I have evacuated my family from Japan due to it and I personally believe the impact will be beyond our belief) but people like this are just as bad as the pronuclear folks who are spreading disinformation that everything is safe.
In times like this there will always be those with ulterior motives (to push their beliefs, agenda, political, nuclear views and/or for personal financial gain and attention) who will spread disinformation under the guise of helping others. This is not unlike Jesse…

If I had to choose between all the government agencies doing no testing, or hiding the results, and one unqualified person doing SOMETHING (No Insects?? No sea anemones?!) I would choose the latter. Kintaman, i see your point and experts have their place, but, they nearly ALL limit their truth. Official science lost it's way when it compartmentalized and set standards of AGREEMENT and removed individual responsibility to pave the way for technological innovation rather than standards for FACTS and outcomes. Science used to be done by laypeople until it merged with industry. It wasn't the authority someone could gather to themselves by their name, which is the case now, it was the actual science, the seeable results that were to be the measure if something was true or not. Those days, though touted as vigorously applied, are gone. Doctors, biologists, leaders regularly lie and pass out false information or pass it along without taking time to read and understand what they are parroting. Over 50% of official researchers fake their data for money and prestige. Many medical protocols are based entirely on made up stories. Radiation is argued to be harmless. Killing bees is said to be no problem. Eating poison is good for you. Bananas are dangerous. These are scientists and doctors assuring us of these lies. That is why Dana and GreenPeace and others go out and look for themselves. It is time to return empowerment back into the hands of people passionate enough to do a thing, whoever they are, start looking at the data ourselves, and making up our own minds. Understanding radiotoxicity IS NOT difficult.

Enough information for me on one single page if I were to live in the vicinity.
I don't particularly find it informing to think of the numbers, as once it gets beyond a certain point, which Fukushima is well beyond, a common man like me has no idea of the scale. When considering chance, does it particularly matter if it's 1/5, or 1/20, when that '1' event's timing is uncertain and it may just be a single encounter? When breathing or going about one's normal business exposure is wildly certain, what good do the numbers really do? 1PBq or 3PBq? Doesn't seem the difference is applicable.
Just think like a human, who basically has to be disciplined to think so linerally. Seems life only appears to be linear because, again, we've no idea of the scale.

It's Monday morning in the U.S. and it appears that nobody gives a damn about any of this. They are too busy either keeping up with their debt or chasing an unattainable fantasy. It will take a proverbial 2×4 up side the head to bring people down from their illusive dreams. Too bad the radioactive threat doesn't come in the form of things like 2×4's upside the head. It's a hidden nemesis that we can choose to ignore long after it's way too late to do anything about it. The other day I was talking to a lawyer who knows more about asbestos and litigation than I do. We got to talking about an asbestos roof removal of a structure that he and I are both familiar with. Our conversation switched to the early leaf color I had noticed (mid-Atlantic region). He said it's genetics. I hypothesized "stress" a la Fukushima. He rambled on about early leaf fall being due to frosts (none that I know of so far) and reiterated the genetic thing. He said " ha!, show me the data, how is Fukushima going to stress trees?"
This is an international asbestos expert, totally buying into the lies from the nuke folks.
If someone as brilliant as he is so clueless, no wonder we have a problem.
Back to the trees. I am talking about red coloring in sweet gum, sour gum, and sassafras and I noticed the massive color change (and leaf drop) starting 8/09/14.
I have never, in my life seen such an early change . Yea, the sun maybe a tad less intense and we have had somewhat of a cool summer, but my gut says Fuku/etc.
So it becomes a faith-based discussion since the data is clearly lacking.

I think it get's through to people really well when we describe actual changes we're noticing. I was telling a neighbor who dropped by that I still don't see a comeback with my earthworms. I dig a hole to plant something and may see one or two but when I uncover them they can't handle being exposed to air now. Not lively like they used to be. I try to put them back quickly.
He said strange that you brought that up…he'd dug some worms to go fishing at he and his wife's OG garlic farm by the river and they died before he got to the fishing hole.

I don't know about you but if ever reactor had a 100 tons of molten fuel that drop into secondary containment, in my humble position I would have expected it to go ex building and when it reached ground water or sea level a massive steam explosion should have occurred, why did it not happen, is it possible that the majority of the cores was ejected and or vapiourized and hence not enough fuel load in reactors, so as it did not leave the building.
What would be worse ejection and vapiourization or corium in ground?
Trick question none of the above.

(Reuters) – A Japanese court has ruled that Fukushima nuclear operator Tokyo Electric was responsible for a woman's suicide after the March 2011 disaster and must pay compensation, in a landmark ruling that could set a precedent for other claims against the utility.
The civil suit by Mikio Watanabe claimed that Tokyo Electric Power Co Inc (9501.T) (Tepco) was to blame for the July 2011 death of his wife, Hamako, 58, who doused herself in kerosene and set herself on fire after falling into depression.
The district court in Fukushima ruled in favor of Watanabe, a court official told reporters. Kyodo news reported that Tepco was ordered to pay 49 million yen ($472,000) in compensation. Watanabe had sought about 91 million yen in damages. …

TY, rogerthat. Well, some good news. Since everyone is suffering from Fukushima fallout, I think every person on earth should receive $1,000,000. each from the owners and shareholders of every nuclear reactor. This would put the nuclear industry out of business. We are all effected and should not have to wait until we die to collect.

Hi Obvious, it's noticeable on the web. I trawl through every day, and the tower of babel presents itself; many more people in many more countries appear to be paying attention. so there is now a wider awareness about the thyroid cancer issue, for example. and the issue of fukushima is popping up in art and in song. and people in japan are starting to talk about what happened to them. it feels rather as if the world is awaking from a long sleep after a very deep trauma. of course, maybe they did not notice, felt no trauma, and they are not waking up but just rolling over lol.

Also relate to roger's thoughts re those that may not have noticed and felt no trauma, …that they are not waking up but just rolling over
Perhaps they can not cope with modern reality, the transition for them is too hard;
but maybe some of them have extremely solid centers and they bend with the wind, but are never uprooted.

LOS ANGELES — The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is failing to protect public safety, California Sen. Barbara Boxer charged on Monday, announcing that the Senate committee she chairs will hold hearings on how regulators have assessed earthquake risks at California's last operating nuclear power plant.
Boxer, a Democrat, announced the hearings as The Associated Press disclosed that a federal expert has been urging the NRC to shut the Diablo Canyon plant until regulators can determine whether its reactors can withstand shaking from nearby earthquake faults.
Boxer, chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee, says she is alarmed that the recommendation by Michael Peck, the NRC's former lead inspector at the plant, was made a year ago and that the agency hasn't acted.

… The second is a much more specific problem: the failure to develop a framework for assessing the comparative costs of different sources of energy (from fossil fuels and nuclear power to solar and renewable energy), inclusive of the externalities involved, which can take many different forms. (By externalities, I mean the consequences that operate outside the market and that market prices do not reflect, such as the release of pollutants into the air, of effluents into rivers and public water supplies, of radiation into the atmosphere.) One of the externalities – the evil effects of carbon emission – has received enormous attention, which in its context is a very good thing, but there are other externalities that also demand our urgent attention. These include the growing danger from the rapidly increasing use of nuclear energy – in China and India especially, where the use of nuclear energy is gathering momentum and large expansions are being planned, but also elsewhere. The dangers of nuclear energy have received astonishingly little systematic attention in scientific and policy discussions. …

Dr. Deagal states (beginning at 24:00 in @ NHK that Chemtrail spraying is part of the Star Wars creation of a plasma that would help detect incoming Soviet missiles. He claims that the plasma of earth has been changed to create more crustal movements and vulcanism- all by accident. We are moving through an arm of the Galaxy that alters the laws of physics. Therefore, we can look forward to many bad things happening on earth. He suggests that you might get a few more good years by living in the Southern Hemisphere.
Dana's observations must be taken with a grain of salt. I myself am not seeing any pelicans this summer. There are many die-offs. Earth is losing its magnetic shield through weakening. Fissures are opening up, releasing methane. Something big is happening.
Looking at the number of species in North Coastal San Diego, it is a fact that most had disappeared before 3-11. The cute girl from British Columbia who "refutes" Dana has not studied the decline in marine biota. She like many young people never saw the abundance in nature.
Many factors are at work in moving us toward a great extinction. We understand very few of these processes. Activities of mankind have not helped a single one. Every year, things are much worse in the oceans. Tipping points from multiple causes over-determine a poor outcome. There may be little we can do. We understand very little about these…

That there are young people who have no knowledge of nature's previous abundance, is a real worry.
I've felt like a an archivist hoarder at times. My house is full of books of all kinds…even stacks of old nat. geographics, magazines and things I'd refer to when drawing or painting…could be a whale or any animal… just to be sure I wasn't putting eyes or ears not quite right.
Now I'm glad I saved them all through various moves. My grandkids may only know some species via photographs in them. It weirds me out just thinking about that.

Two things -

All around the northern hemisphere dozens of times over by now.
2) NHK … that many studies are showing… that multiple cores — parts of it, or some, or even most of it — had been ejected."
Could they possibly mean that spent fuel pools burned as they contained many different cores. Each having their own unique signature, hence they can ID 'multiples'.
