Della’s Kitchen Set to Open in the Delano, BOH Brawl Makes It Big

Even though its sister restaurant Made L.V. just opened about a mile away, don’t count Honey Salt out. The Farm Table dinner series ($45, $25 additional for beverage pairings, 1031 S. Rampart Blvd., 702-445-6100, HoneySalt.com) is still chugging along, with two planned for September. The first, on September 8, features Life is Beautiful founder Rehan Choudhry as a special guest, offering his perspective on the pillars of the festival—music, food, art and learning—along with the four-course meal. As fall approaches, ingredients are getting heartier, including a first course of Desert Meadow Greens, a salad of radish, fennel and citrus vinaigrette, followed by a main-course tasting of cobia four ways. The September 22 dinner pairs a market-driven menu with beers from nearby Tenaya Creek Brewery. Highlights include the Honey Salt Lyonnaise salad with pork belly, arugula, frisée and a sunny-side-up egg.

The farm extends even further to Della’s Kitchen, the farmhouse-meets-urban-eatery concept in the Delano at Mandalay Bay, opening September 2. The environmentally-conscious menu focuses on local and regional ingredients, while the restaurant itself has its own greenhouse, supplying fresh herbs for breakfast and lunch. It wouldn’t be a new Las Vegas eatery without a juice program, but there are more interesting entries to look forward to, such as Benedicts topped with blue crab or smoked pork, and carne asada huevos rancheros using Idaho Snake River Farms beef. The steak frites is a must-try, as is a toasted cheese sandwich with tomato soup, but there are also more grown-up options such as duck panini—duck confit, Fontina cheese and wild arugula—and the super-comforting braised Kurobuta pork shank with Nevada rainbow chard.

The little food-truck event that could, Back of House Brawl (wherein restaurant chefs give up their fancy, decked-out kitchens to battle each other in food-truck galleys) is now officially going to be a reality show. BOH Brawl creator Jolene Mannina has paired up with Relativity Television—responsible for such shows as The Great Food Truck Race and Guy’s Grocery Games—for eight episodes on A&E. They’re currently on the hunt for locally based professional chefs to compete, and what’s at stake is “supreme street cred and serious bragging rights.”  The showdowns, much like the original Brawls, will also involve a party atmosphere with chefs’ family, friends and colleagues.
