FORECAST IN DETAIL

The warming trend ramps up today with some sun and some really nice 60s for our afternoon. We do run into the potential for showers late tonight through at least the first half of tomorrow, thanks to a fast-moving cold front that cools us back down for the end of the work week. But then precipitation chances take a hike for the foreseeable future. How about the weekend? It’s cool to start, but warms nicely by the finish.

Temperature Map

Today (Wednesday): Pretty darn nice day for the first week of November. Our next cold front is still far off to the west. That means a partly sunny day here in the D.C. area, with morning temperatures rising into and through the 50s, and afternoon highs hitting the mid-60s. Winds are light from the south around 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Skies cloud over during the evening or overnight. And as the front gets closer we pick up a 30-40% chance of some showers after 2 a.m. or so. With the clouds, lows should stay up in the 50s for most of us. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Thursday): The front is a fast mover. So while we hold on to mostly cloudy skies and a 50% chance of showers through the morning, any rain should be on its way out by early afternoon, and skies should see at least partial clearing thereafter. Also during the afternoon, winds increase to 15-20 mph from the northwest. Highs should reach the mid-60s, but temperatures may start to fall fast late in the afternoon. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Under partly cloudy skies and with diminishing winds, temperatures steadily sink to lows in the mid-30s to low 40s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

The Friday through Sunday period brings a quiet stretch of cool weather, but warming late in the weekend. Skies should be partly to mostly clear throughout, with Friday and Saturday highs in the 50s, and Sunday highs near 60 to the low 60s. Friday and Saturday night lows find their way down to the 30s to low 40s, which is right around average. Confidence: Medium
