Metro weekend work affects four lines; adjusted schedules for Labor Day

Major Metro track work is scheduled for the Red, Orange and Green lines over the holiday weekend. The work will also affect service on the new Silver Line and riders should expect trains to run on a weekend or adjusted schedule on Labor Day.

There’s no change in the schedule for the Blue and Yellow lines —trains will run on a regular weekend schedule through Monday.

On Monday, Labor Day, the system will open at 7 a.m. and close at midnight. Trains will operate on a Sunday schedule. Off-peak fares will be in effect all day and parking will be free at Metro parking facilities.

Red Line. Bethesda and Medical Center stations will be closed over the weekend while crews work on the rail ties and insulators and replace cable communication. Shuttle buses will replace trains between Friendship Heights and Grosvenor stations beginning at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and continuing through the system’s closing on Monday.

Red Line trains will run every 10 minutes between Shady Grove and Grosvenor, and every 10 minutes between Friendship Heights and Glenmont.

If you are traveling late at night, please note that the last train of the night from Shady Grove to Grosvenor will depart 35 minutes earlier than normal to allow for bus shuttle connections. This means, it will depart at 1:55 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 10:55 p.m. on Sunday and Monday.

Orange Line. Crews will work on track insulators and the railroad ties and fasteners between East Falls Church and West Falls Church Metro stations. Trains will run every 15 minutes from 10 p.m. Friday through the system’s closing on Sunday.  They will operate a regular Sunday service on Monday.

Silver Line.  The new rail line will also experience some delays this weekend not because of any work scheduled in the new section of track in Fairfax County, but rather because the Silver Line shares part of its route with tracks also used by the Blue and Orange lines. From 10 p.m. Friday to Sunday’s closing, trains will operate every 15 minutes to accommodate the work being done on the Orange Line.  Trains will run on a regular weekend service on Monday.

Green Line.  Between Prince George’s Plaza and Greenbelt, crews will work on track insulators and the railroad ties and fasteners. All along the line, trains are scheduled to reach the platform every 16 minutes from 10 p.m. Friday through the system’s closing on Monday.
