Thread-u-cation Thursday: How to Make a Sharp Corner with the Outline Stitch

Every bird wants sharp points on her tail feathers. We all like to be well groomed. And no doubt it helps while in flight to have pointy tail feathers.  So when you are stitching the edges of shapes (like tail feathers) with an Outline Stitch, how do you make a sharp corner with your stitching?
How to Turn a Corner with an Outline Stitch: When you reach the corner of a shape, insert the needle at the tip of the corner at Point A. Now exit the fabric about 1/4" down the edge of the next side of the shape at Point B. Draw the needle and thread through Point B.

Re-insert the needle into Point A. Now exit the fabric at Point C which is about half way between A and B. Draw the needle and thread through Point C.

You have now turned the corner! Don't you feel good!
You may now continue on your merry way with the Outline Stitch. This method of turning a corner may have been obvious to you but it took me a long time to figure it out. Guess my personal tail feathers aren't all that sharp.

Thanks for clear easy-to-follow directions! I'm going to try this for a handwork project as soon as 'porch' season starts. I like to keep my hands busy!

I wanted to do that stitch around an edge, but my brain wasn't working, lol. Now that I see how you have done it, I can picture it, the next time I want to do an edge.

Hi :-)

Thanks for the tip :-)
I popped to your store - I love the colours of your fabric and thread! I've marked you down in my notes as a supplier

I wonder how much the method differs for stem stitch, as opposed to outline stitch. I definitely can't think atm - I have bronchitis and 'spinny head'!

All the best
