Woking have sealed a return to the top tier of the non-league pyramid after winning the Blue Square Bet South title with a 1-0 victory over Maidenhead.

Guiseppe Sole scored from the penalty spot to break the club's record of scoring in nine successive matches.

Manager Garry Hill told BBC Surrey: "I'm pleased for everyone at the club. It was a big wrench to leave the Conference when they got relegated.

"But to win their way back, I'm proud to say it's where they belong."

Match-winner Sole was delighted, especially after returning to the club following a loan spell at Basingstoke.

"I'm lost for words," he said. "This team has got such good team spirit it's unbelievable. I thought it was over when I went on loan in February, but to be fair I worked hard and the gaffer showed faith in me."

The Surrey side, who have been setting the pace since going top of the table in September, will start next season back in the Blue Square Bet Premier for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign.

The Cards made the play-off final two years ago and lost in the semi-finals last season.

Hill has been instrumental in Woking's rise since his appointment as manager in January 2011.

He has now guided three teams to promotion to the top flight of non-league football, having achieved the feat with Dagenham & Redbridge in 2000 and Weymouth in 2006.

Woking will be presented with the Blue Square Bet South trophy next weekend, following their match against Truro City at Kingfield.
