Tencent QQ entered the Guinness World Records for having the most simultaneous online users on an instant messaging platform, making it the first Chinese instant messenger to join the bulk of (occasionally) praiseworthy records.

GWR recently announced the news after a leading global data monitoring company tracked QQ users' log-in activity and recorded a peak of 210,212,085 simultaneous users online at 12:52 p.m. on July 3, 2104, China Internet Watch relays:

CEO Of Guinness World Record Ltd. in China, Rowan Simon mentioned that they were happy to see Tencent QQ had absolute influence on Internet as an instant messenger and they were looking forward to more Tencent and China’s Internet companies products in Guinness World Record.
In a quarterly report released this spring, Tencent reported 808 million monthly active users on QQ. At that time, it boasted a peak of 180 million simultaneous online users.

QQ's active users actually decreased by one percent in Quarter 4 of 2013, but while the number of PC users logging into the instant messenger fell, QQ usage on mobile devices climbed 74 percent in the past year. QQ now has around 426 million active mobile accounts, according to Tech in Asia, still dwarfing mobile messaging app WeChat's 300 million (but rapidly increasing) users.
