President Hassan Rouhani said that the late founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini, had established a modern Islamic government.

He made the remarks here Saturday morning while visiting the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini on southern Tehran to mark the beginning of Government Week.
“For the first time in Iran and Shia history, Imam Khomeini established a modern Islamic government within the frameworks of religious jurisprudence and Islamic laws,” said Dr.Rouhani and that “Imam Khomeini taught freedom and independence to all people around the world."
President Rouhani further pointed to Imam Khomeini’s moderation and avoidance of extremism or ignorance towards west orientation.
He said that the late Imam Khomeini thought us dealing with the world arrogant powers as well as peace and reconciliation.
He added: “Imam Khomeini established a religious democracy based on public votes and emphasized that the true measure of (acceptance) is nation's vote and the main pillar of the Islamic government is Divine laws and the Constitution.”
President has expressed optimism about a positive economic growth rate by the end of the current Iranian year (to end March 20, 2015).
President stressed that his government was persistently working on lowering the present inflation rate. He hoped for a reduced 20-percent inflation rate by the end of the year.
He also said his government will continue to respect the ideas of its opponents but will not remain silent about sabotages.
President said Tehran plans to continue talks with the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, Britain and France plus Germany) very seriously until it succeeds in restoring its inalienable nuclear rights.
He said: "We will continue our (present) path in foreign policy and will seriously continue our negotiations based on logic, our rights and international undertakings.”
