The Nandom District Assembly has successfully completed the naming of all streets in the district as directed by President John Dramani Mahama.
In all, 16 streets were named after worthy citizens of the area and others who had contributed greatly to the development of the district, in particular, and the country at large.
Some of the street names are: the ‘Cardinal Dery Street,’ which begins from the Nandom Town to the Nandom Church, while the street from Nandom Town to Kabaa has been named after the Late President John Evans Atta Mills for creating the district in 2012.
The Nandom to Tuokuu road had also been named after Naa Konkuu, one of the chiefs, while the Nandom Town to the former airstrip road has also been named after Former President Jerry John Rawlings, who used to fly there in the 1980s.
The Nandom to Hamile Road has been named after the very first Nandom settler, known as Zenuo.
Mr. Cuthbert Baba Kuupiel, Nandom District Chief Executive (DCE), in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the names were carefully solicited from the traditional authorities, youth groups, civil society organisations, land owners, religious bodies and women’s groups.
The names were then validated by stakeholders, including the Town and Country Planning and other decentralised departments and agreed upon.
Mr. Kuupiel said having successfully completed the street naming, the assembly would now focus on the house numbering and property addressing system.
The DCE said the exercise when fully completed, would enhance easy identification and location of specific places as well as boost the revenue of the assembly.
