North Korea and America

“The historic decision to divide the peninsula has aroused speculation on several counts. Some historians attribute the division of Korea to military expediency in receiving the Japanese surrender, while others believe that the decision was a measure to prevent the Soviet forces from occupying the whole of Korea. Since U.S. policy toward Korea during World War II had aimed to prevent any single power's domination of Korea, it may be reasonably concluded that the principal reason for the division was to stop the Soviet advance south of the 38th parallel.” [1]

With North Korea currently creating a very unsettling distraction for an Iraq-bound America, it may be a time to reflect upon some of the causes behind the present situation. As the quote above suggests, the current crisis has its roots back in 1948 when Korea was divided.

Perhaps no country is entirely to blame, however America’s involvement in Korea since that time has been quite marked, and now she is reaping some consequences of her past actions. Consequences are karmic of course, hinting at the Lord of Karma, Saturn. Many nations formed around the end of World War II are now approaching their second Saturn returns, a cycle of 28-30 years. Most prominent of some of these nations are India, Pakistan and Israel, all with nuclear weapon capabilities.

In considering North Korea’s horoscope [2], she is a Virgo Sun with Scorpio rising and Moon in Sagittarius. Pluto, ruler of Scorpio, has been squaring the Virgo Sun for the past year, and is probably one of the long term influences that has been creating famine conditions.

North Korea

Virgo is a sign of nurturing, and Pluto is the Lord of Power and of Death. The square aspect from transiting Pluto to the Virgo Sun has made North Korea choose power in developing nuclear capabilities, over caring for the people. The square of Pluto to a Virgo Sun can make for a rather dry and austere attitude, an indifference and a lack of emotion to the suffering of others. It can create a ruthless and cold-hearted attitude.

The Virgo Sun is square to Jupiter in Sagittarius, and can give an inflated and exaggerated sense of self, extreme egotism and a bombastic nature. This is further compounded by Jupiter’s conjunction to the Moon in Sagittarius, creating a fanatical adherence to personal beliefs, and a one-pointed zealousness that would make Bin Laden blush.

Currently Pluto has moved away from the square to the Sun per se, and for 2003 will be sitting directly on Jupiter, therefore still activating the square, but bringing more of the Jupiter expression forth. Hence the exaggerated sense of power that the combination of Pluto and Jupiter bring.

North Korea’s Jupiter sits opposite America’s Mars, which is prominently aspected by several transiting and progressed planets in 2003, representing in many ways her moment of truth. [3]

Not only is the focus on Mars important for America but also the Aquarian Moon that has transiting Uranus going over it, as well as the progressed Sun. Directly opposite sits North Korea’s Saturn in Leo, conjunct the powerful star Regulus.

North Korea is now saying that it can choose to launch a pre-emptive strike against America if it wants to, saying that America has set the precedent. Her latest consistent sabre rattling, is no doubt coming from her  leader Kim Jong Il. [4]

Kim Yong Il

As North Korea’s horoscope has major personality integration difficulties, so does Kim Jong Il’s. He has Sun in Aquarius squared by Aquarius’ ruler, Uranus. This is the classic dictator aspect. Hitler and Hussein have the conjunction of Uranus and the Sun in Taurus. The square can make for eccentricity and erratic behaviour, as well as brilliance and innovation.

Kim Jong –Il

The individual usually has a great need to fulfil and express an unique identity in the world, but lacks consistency and reliability, due to the distortion of the higher Uranian vibrations through an unaligned personality. That identity is found through the acquisition of power which Taurus represents.

Jong graduated from university in 1963 and went on to study in East Germany, but there are rumours he was sent back home due to his bad behaviour. After graduation he spent much of his time making films and putting on plays. Later he joined the Worker's Party, appointed to the Secretariat of the Central Committee in 1973, and by the following year was a member of the party political committee. At this Congress Kim Il Sung designated Kim Jong Il as his successor, thus establishing the first hereditary dynasty in the communist world, completely against the theory of Marx.

Jong then went on to create a personality cult around himself following the same lines as his father, and took on the title of "Dear Leader". The ‘official’ version of his life includes the following few paragraphs:

“Born in a secret anti-Japanese guerrilla camp on the top of the sacred peak of Mount Paektu. At the time of his birth there were flashes of lightning and thunder, the iceberg in the pond on Mount Paektu emitted a mysterious sound as it broke and bright double rainbows rose up.

Later in life he was the foremost student at the Kim Il Sung University and was soon teaching his teachers. After university he then went on to promote the Juche idea, design the Tower of the Juche Idea, and wrote six operas, each of them better than any in the history of music. The first time he turned his hand to golf, he scored five holes-in-one and beat the world record for a single round by 25 strokes. He then went on to help his father run the country. Brilliance runs in the family.

Kim Jong Il comes from a long time of great patriots. From the time his great grandfather, Kim Ung Woo, who led the burning of the American warship The Sherman, the Kim family history is one revolutionary act after another.”

That's part of the ‘official’ version and the personality cult that has been built up. This same propaganda has developed an intense hatred of America.

In 1991 he became the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. He has been accused of ordering bombings and in 1987 the killing of 115 people on board a South Korean Airline.

He has been married three or four times and has three or four legitimate children. He is portrayed as a vain and capricious playboy, with permed hair and lifts in his shoes, and a liking for good food and foreign drink. He spent the $100 million, received from South Korean tourists who visit the North, on his 57th birthday party that included a mass rally involving thousands of people. That sum could have purchased 500,000 tonnes of mazes, a third of the annual grain shortfall.

Kim Jong Il is steeped in North Korean Stalinism. Having been groomed to take over power since the mid 1960s, and having ruled alongside his father in the later years, he has embraced the policies of Kim Il Sung as his own. Some analysts also believe the younger Kim was responsible for developing North Korea's nuclear weapons programme. He is also a tough negotiator, having been able to extract millions of dollars worth of aid from foreign countries like the United States, for very little in return.

Kim Jong’s personality could be described as extremely unbalanced, to say the least. He has been responsible for contributing to the misery of millions of starving people in North Korea, and instigated its nuclear weapons program.

His Venus is natally square Jupiter and Saturn, which were in exact conjunction in 1941. This square can make for difficult relationships through frustrated emotional expression, which in turn can find its outlet in self-indulgence. Combine this with his Venus-ruled Libran Moon: permed hair and raised shoes.

Currently he has progressed Mars making a precise conjunction to his natal Venus in Aquarius, so the natal square is being triggered. Kim keeps initiating provocative acts in his relationships with America and South Korea. Therefore Mars’ presence is going to make him aggressive. However, transiting Neptune also lines up to an exact conjunction with both progressed Mars and natal Venus, perhaps reflecting that this is all smoke and mirrors, attention-getting on the world stage. Yet if he is serious, then Neptune can be very artful at deceit and propaganda.

Kim’s Sun is within 12’ of arc to America’s Moon, very close synastry. Both closely oppose North Korea’s Saturn in Leo, creating a potential and formidable power struggle. If the Moon represents the Dweller or shadow of the horoscope, then North Korea seems to be acting it out for America. She could well be a far scarier monster for America than groups of terrorists.
