Probate Court
Jurisdiction: informal probate cases; estate cases

Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court
Jurisdiction: tort, contract, and real property rights cases < $10,000; felony preliminary hearings; misdemeanor, DWI/DUI, and other traffic violations
Selection of Judges: gubernatorial appointment from nominating commission
Retention of Judges: retention election*
Qualifications: state bar member; 3 yrs practice of law in state
*In the first general election after their appointment, judges must win a partisan election to serve the remainder of the unexpired term. Judges stand in retention elections thereafter.
