Riding profile
Fredericton North is an urban riding that is on the north side of the St. John River. The riding is bounded on the southeast by the Nashwaak River, on the west by the intersection of Sunset Drive and Clements Drive and on the north by the Ring Road and the northern limits of Two Nations Crossing and northeast by the NB Power substation on Canada Street.
The riding also includes the Devon and St. Mary’s First Nations.
The Fredericton economy is driven largely by the public service and the two public universities that are located in the capital city. But the city is also home to growing technology industry and has seen companies, such as Radian6 and Q1 Labs, sold for hundreds of millions of dollars.

Political history
Fredericton South is a new riding that was created for the 2014 election and includes portions of the former Fredericton-Fort Nashwaak and Fredericton-Nashwaaksis ridings.
Every Fredericton riding had voted for the Liberals in 2006 and in 2010 each riding elected Progressive Conservative MLAs.
Progressive Conservative Pam Lynch was elected in Fredericton-Fort Nashwaak, defeating Liberal Kelly Lamrock. Lamrock was a cabinet minister, who held senior portfolios, such as education and social development. Lamrock was elected in 2003 and 2006.
Progressive Conservative Troy Lifford was elected in Fredericton-Nashwaaksis, defeating Liberal T.J. Burke. Burke was elected in 2003 and 2006. He served in cabinet as the minister of justice and then the minister of environment.
The Green Party placed third in Fredericton-Nashwaaksis in 2010, behind the Liberals but ahead of the NDP. The party’s performance was boosted by the presence of Jack MacDougall, who was the party’s leader in the 2010 election.
