IceMen Add Three From Senators Camp & Heeter

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, welcomed three new players to the team’s training camp at the Ford Center. Jakub Culek, Chris Dreidger, and Troy Rutkowski all made the trip from Ottawa to Evansville to join the IceMen.

All three prospects played for Head Coach, Dwight Mullins last season when he was at Elmira. These three players also participated in the Ottawa Senators training camp before travelling to Evansville.

Jakub Culek (Forward, Plzen Czech Republic)- Culek scored eight goals and added 22 helpers in 49 games for the Elmira Jackals in 2013-14. The Senators drafted the 22-year-old out of the Czech Republic in the third round of the 2010 draft.

“He can play either Center or Wing,” Mullins said. “ He has great vision, good skill. He compliments our style of play. He’s going into his third year pro and we expect big things from him.”

Chris Driedger (G)- The Ottawa Senators drafted Driedger in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The 20-year-old netminder played four games for Elmira in 2013-14 and stopped 89.3 percent of the shots he faced with the Jackals.

“Chris Driedger is someone that’s on a very prominent development scale within the organization,” Mullins “I had him at the ened of last year. He really has the ability to be a go to guy at this level, and hopefully he finds his way to the NHL”

Troy Rutkowski (D)- Rutkowski enters his second professional season. The 22-year-old played 41 games for Elmira and 12 for Binghamton. Rutkowski tallied one goal and nine assists in 53 games.

“I think he learned a lot last year splitting time between the ECHL and the AHL,” Mullins said.  “We look for big things from him especially offensively.”

The IceMen also added a goaltender,  Cal Heeter who made one start for the PhiladelphiaFlyers in 2013-14.  Heeter posted a 2.65 Goals Against Average with the Adirondack Phantoms last season.

To make room for the three newcomers the IceMen parted ways with Garrett Bartus, Mike Desjarlais, Dustin Jesseau, and Brett Madigan. Bartus won eight games and and turned away 90.2 percent of the shots he faced with the IceMen in 2013-14.
