Share the Buzz & Attend Whole Foods Market’s Human Bee-In This Weekend

by boiron on June 20th, 2014

Did you know that around 85 percent of plant species on Earth either require, or strongly benefit from, insect pollination? From the produce section to the dairy aisle, hundreds of families’ favorite foods would cease to exist without bees. Summer_2014_Share the Buzz_why bees matter_revisedUnfortunately, nearly one third of America’s bumble bee species are now at-risk of extinction, according to a recent analysis by the Xerces Society, a nonprofit organization that protects wildlife through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitat. For the last eight years, honey bee colonies have been dying at an annual rate of 30 percent or more due to multiple factors, including parasites and diseases, pesticides, and the loss of habitat to make way for industrial-scale farming.

To help raise awareness about the importance of supporting honey bee populations and in celebration of National Pollinator Week (June 16-23), Whole Foods Market stores nationwide are hosting “Human Bee-In” events tomorrow with family friendly activities, sampling and food demonstrations. STBDisplayBoiron has partnered with Whole Foods Market to support these endangered pollinators, and together with several other companies, the group has donated $115,000 to the Xerces Society to help provide bee-friendly tools and education to farmers. Whole Foods stores in several regions are also featuring select Boiron Arnicare and Calendula products on sale through Tuesday, July 1.
