Observe Memorial Day with Good Deeds & Well-Stocked First Aid Kit

by boiron on May 26th, 2014

Memorial Day was first observed on May 30, 1868 as “Decoration Day,” when flowers were placed on the graves of the Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. Over 140 years later, the tradition continues, and past and present U.S. soldiers are honored by this federal holiday on the last Monday in May. Here are a few service-oriented ways you can observe the holiday this year with your family and friends:

– Participate in the national moment of remembrance at 3 p.m. local time.

– Visit a local veterans’ cemetery or community war memorial.

– Fly the U.S. flag at half-staff from dawn until noon.

– Take baked goods or activities to a nearby veterans’ hospital.

– Create and send cards to soldiers overseas.

fathers-day-grillingThere are also many of us who use the Memorial Day holiday weekend to celebrate the start of summer with backyard barbecues and trips to the beach and our favorite campsites. But before you start the grill or pitch a tent, make sure your first aid kit is well-stocked with homeopathic medicines. Boiron Calendula topicals relieve all types of skin irritations. Calendula Lotion is ideal for soothing sunburn; the ointment helps to heal minor burns; the cream is ideal for sensitive skin and children; and the gel works well on insect bites. Overeating is always an issue at most Memorial Day picnics, so keep Nux vomica on hand. This popular single medicine relieves nausea, acid indigestion, hangovers, and most importantly, an upset stomach from overindulgence in food and drink. And when one too many volleyball or badminton games causes sore muscles, Arnicare Gel is a must-have. This unscented, non-greasy gel relieves muscle pain, stiffness and bruising. So no matter what you do this weekend, Boiron medicines will be there to nip those symptoms in the bud.

From everyone here at Boiron, we wish you and your family a safe and healthy Memorial Day!
