SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers selected another cornerback, going with Keith Reaser of Florida Atlantic in the fifth round with the No. 170 overall selection.

Cornerback
Florida Atlantic
5 foot 10
189 pounds
Selection: Fifth round, No. 170 overall

Chosen ahead of . . . QB Zach Mettenberger (LSU), LB Jordan Tripp (Montana), WR Jared Abbrederis (Wisconsin).

College career: He saw action in six games before sustaining a season-ending torn ACL that will likely keep him out for the upcoming season, too. (More on that later.) A four-year college player, he played and started in every game as a junior, recording 45 tackles, including 30 solo.

Scouting report: “Reaser is a no-question draft pick if healthy, but after tearing his ACL last fall, he had a setback from surgery and was sent home from the NFL Combine -- some team will get a bargain” – NFLDraftScout.com.

How he fits: Reaser lines up as another 49ers redshirt pick. He tore his left ACL in a game in October and got news at the NFL Scouting Combine during the medical check that he had re-torn his knee ligament. He underwent surgery Feb. 27 with a graft from his patellar tendon to begin his rehab from the beginning. Expect him to spend the season on the non-football injury list.
