The hot firemen are here to stay. NBC is giving a full-season order to Chicago Fire.
This marks NBC’s second new fall drama to get a full 22 episodes. The first was Monday’s Revolution, which was picked up quickly. Wednesday night’s Chicago Fire was a tougher call. The Dick Wolf-produced drama has been a modest performer, but viewers say last night’s episode was creatively strong and the series has shown some sparks of life in the ratings in recent weeks. Season to date, Chicago Fire has averaged 8 million viewers and a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49 (including DVR playback) while facing ABC’s freshman drama Nashville and CBS’ veteran crime drama CSI. Chicago Fire hit a ratings high last night, aided by a special airing of The Voice.
“We all love this thrilling new drama with its sexy breakout cast,” said Jennifer Salke, president, NBC Entertainment. “We are excited to see it gaining traction on our schedule. Executive producer Dick Wolf and all the producers have done an amazing job developing a high-stakes series with lots of great heroic characters whose exploits are depicted in Dick’s typically epic storytelling style. We are incredibly invested in this one and can’t wait to hear about their plans for the back nine.”
