Contrary to reports that the abducted Chibok girls had been rescued and are in the custody of the military in Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri, Borno State, THISDAY can authoritatively report that the stories are false.

The Director Defence Information, Major-General Chris Olukolade, who erroneously stated they had been released, has issued a rejoinder stating that the two bus loads conveying other girls to the barracks did not have the Chibok girls who have been in captivity for five months.

This was also confirmed by sources in the Borno State Government and Department and State Security in the state.

Instead, the bus load was conveying some of the Chibok girls who had earlier escaped in order to convey them to their new schools outside Borno State.

It will be recalled that the Borno State Government had promised to find new schools outside Borno for the 53 girls who had escaped from the captivity of Boko Haram.
