2014 XCaliber Award Winners Showcase

When: December 11, 2014, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Where: Torgersen 1060

We are pleased to showcase the 2014 XCaliber Award winners in our first NLI showcase session on Thursday, December 11. Join us as we hear from this year’s winners: Dr. Matthew Wisnioski, Associate Professor in Science and Technology in Society; Dr. Paola Zellner, Assistant Professor, School of Architecture and Design; and Dr. Tom Martin, Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering. Dr. Wisnioski will be joined by graduate students from his seminar, “Origins of Innovation” (STS 6614), that teamed with him to co-create the course project, “Lenses of Innovation @ VT.” Drs. Zellner and Martin co-created and co-taught an interdisciplinary design course, “Textiles Space,” that focuses on using novel technology,  human-centered design principles, and computation to develop potential applications of smart fabrics.

All faculty attendees will receive NLI credit for attending, and everyone enrolled is welcome to enjoy a free lunch at the end of the session. Attendance is limited to 50, so please enroll now and help us celebrate our 2014 X-Caliber winners and learn more about their innovative projects.

WELCOME TO NLI’S NEW “12 OVER 4” PROGRAM

Whether you are due for a new computer this academic year, or four years from now, you can begin earning NLI credits NOW! All Networked Learning Initiatives (NLI, formerly FDI) credits earned during the four years preceding your new computer due date count toward your computer refresh certificate. To receive your new computer on your due date, you must have earned 12 credits on your NLI transcript. Once you receive your new computer, your NLI transcript will reset and you may start earning credits toward your next computer right away. NLI hosts hundreds of sessions and special events throughout the year and provides new computers to eligible faculty. New to the “12 over 4” program this year:

• 12 credits needed to earn a computer refresh certificate (previously 17)
• Credits earned within 4 years prior to refresh due date apply
• Implementation project options available
