|A STATUE commemorating Derby County's former Baseball Ground home has been unveiled.
The 15-foot high metalwork, featuring three footballers dribbling, shooting and tackling, was officially revealed at the Normanton site by ex-Ram Roger Davies.
Commissioned by developers Spirita and Strata, which are building a 149-house estate on the former ground, the work in Cambridge Street was designed by artist Denis O'Connor.
Gemma Smith, of Strata, said the company wanted to preserve the area's football legacy.
She said: "We are absolutely delighted with the sculpture and we hope that both residents and local people will enjoy it for many years to come."
Mr O'Connor has a studio in Wirksworth and works with the University of Derby.
Mrs Smith said the housing development would be finished by spring 2012.
The Baseball Ground hosted thousands of matches between 1895 and 1997, when the club moved to Pride Park.
It was the ground where former manager Brian Clough and assistant Peter Taylor led the Rams to the First Division championship in 1972. A bronze statue of the pair was unveiled at Pride Park last month.
