Rihanna releases new single 'Only Girl (In the World),' gets us excited about her upcoming album

rihannaImage Credit: John Parra/Wireimage.comThis morning American Idol host Ryan Seacrest debuted Rihanna‘s lead single from her upcoming Loud album, “Only Girl (In the World),” on his radio show. This Euro-pop dance cut is a complete 180 from the sullen “Russian Roulette” single that led the way for Rated R last year, and it sounds like a stronger, sexier version of her 2007 smash “Don’t Stop the Music.” Both “Girl” and that hit were whipped up by Norwegian production duo Stargate.

As synths shoot over the track and a heavy, whipping bass spanks, Rihanna seductively sings, “Baby, I’ll tell you all my secrets that I’m keepin’/You can come inside/And when you enter, you ain’t leavin’/Be my prisoner for the night.” You can listen to it here.

It took me a few songs to get into Rated R, but after this single, she has my ear from song one. Loud is due out this November. What do you think of her new single? Are you anxious for her next album now?

HELL YEA…-BUT SHE GOTTA TWEAK ONE MORE ALBUM BEFORE THE RETURN OF REAL TALENT’D ARTISTS…
AND HER LABEL KNOWS GAGA RETURNS IN JANUARY WITH NEW MATERIAL SO THEY GOTTA GET THAT SH..T OUT…
THIS MUSIC INDUSTRY IS SO …UGGHHH

No. I’ll take hearing more Rihanna. Her music is very exciting pop and I can’t wait to hear her new album. Love her new single–it gets you dancing!

  • Casey

    NO…

  • Justin K

I’m just ready for her to get off this crazy-dark bent she’s got going after she got the crap beat out of her- yeah, crap happens- but you don’t have to sing about it in all of your songs- go to therapy. People who haven’t been beat up don’t want to hear about other people pulling the trigger on your game of russian roulette.

it was one album. let’s see you get your face bashed in for the whole world to see and see if you feel like singing happy songs.

        so true!

Although I find your complaint pretty ridiculous (in the sense that it’s sure sad for you to have to suffer through HER personal abuse), you should probably listen to the song and realize that this is a return to club Rihanna.

    the song isn’t that good.
the chorus is annoying…. good Lord- it’s annoying.

I actually liked the dark Rihanna. “Rated R” was a truly impressive pop music achievement. I feel like this song — while good — is a huge step back for her.

    • connor

      i agree. rated r = brilliance.

        your taste = non-existent

I agree with you Justin K. The song isn’t that good. If this is what her next album is going to sound like then wow what a disappointment! The chorus is HORRIBLE! Its almost like she is just yelling. It hurt my ears.

  • S

Rated R songs better than ‘Only Girl’ that’s for sure. Man my head hurts now from listening to it.

  • Christina

Club song yeah, hit radio song no way!

Jeez, remember when artists took breaks…like years, between albums?? I don’t listen to much mainstream pop, and I’m glad I don’t. It seems once an artist gets popular now, we’re bombarded with back to back cd’s, guest appearances with other artists, movies, and product endorsements. It’s sad what slaves to celebrity we’ve become…btw, everything I’ve ever heard from Rhianna, royally sucks.

I’m a Rihallah fan, but this song isn’t that good! I love Rated R and it’s moody aura, but this is too light for me!

  • Bee

    disappointed :( the chorus stinks

  • Preston

I just heard Rihanna’s new song from the Ryan Seacrest show website! It is hot! The dance grooves and beats are so funky. Even funkier than her last hit Rude Boy! I liked her Rated R album and its dark themes over dance pop, but it’s time for Rihanna to have some fun again! Very fun and bouncy dance pop record that challenges even Katy Perry, Jason Derulo, Taio Cruz and Kesha’s recent hits! I think they’re waiting until the other songs cool down–you know how radio doesn’t like to have 3 similar dance records on the radio–they like to sequester and block them from each other. This will be a hit! Look forward to her album!

I am ambivalent. On one hand, the inner gay boy inside me LOVES this, but as Christina said above, this will be HUGE in the clubs…but radio…I’m not so sure. If Gaga isn’t dropping a new single..maybe, but there are a few problems, the first being that radio only plays 1 or 2 dance records at a time, depending on what you may perceive as a dance song. La Roux got lucky, but will radio play the follow-up “In For The Kill” ? Possibly since they canceled shows up & down the East Coast in July …Look at CASCADA’s new single, “Pyromania” that just SOUNDS like a radio record…no pop stations, even the ones who had success with “Evacuate the Dancefloor” are playing it, and then there was Ne-Yo’s “Beautiful Monster” single earlier this summer, which sounded awesome…but it never took off, and Def Jam rever even released the remixes yet (officially) and moved his album back from Sept. to Oct….Dance songs just always find constant lack of support from Program & music Directors, but I dunno since Rihanna is a radio darling for the most part, and she is coming off a HUGE summer record with Eminem that was heavy, maybe they will give this fun song a whirl?

  • Preston

I think they want to put Rihanna’s new song out while her other song with Eminem is still in the top 10; she can have TWO songs in the top 10 at the same time if the response to this new single is strong! This goes up the chart to No. 1 while the Eminem duet cools down drops to 6 or 7.

  • Phil

Any fans of this new single by Rihanna should def. go check out the Wideboys Club mix of Alexis Jordan’s “Happiness”. Its been a huge hit in the clubs this summer, but unless you are familiar with the website MasterBeat.com, the song hasn’t been available on iTunes until today! GO support Jay-Z’s latest pop star in the making!
