AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Fire Department investigators said a man who officials said was under the influence has been charged with arson following an hours-long SWAT standoff at a car dealership in Southeast Austin.
Jason Andrew Scrivner, 26, who was naked when he was arrested, remained in Travis County Jail on Tuesday night with bail set at $50,000.
Capt. Andy Reardon of the department’s arson unit said other charges are pending.
Officials said the incident started around 2:30 a.m. when police got a 911 hang-up call from the Nissan dealership at 6001 Interstate 35.

TAMPA, Florida – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said they arrested a 28-year-old man and charged him with second-degree murder Wednesday afternoon when his girlfriend died hours after he manhandled.
At around 3 a.m., Leon Stevenson Jr., 28, and girlfriend Nakysha Hamilton, 23, got into confrontation over finances, sheriff’s office reported.
According to the sheriff’s office, Stevenson grabbed her by the neck and forcibly threw her on the floor at their apartment, 12802 N. 58th St, Tampa. He also slapped her several times and choked her.

The retrial was asked after jury found Guetzloe guilty of defamation.
ORANGE COUNTY, Florida – After an Orange County jury concluded the defamation suit ruling against political consultant Doug Guetzloe in February, he filed a motion for a new retrial of his case.
The ruling was determined after the jury found out that Guetzloe, during his talk-radio show on Jan. 10, 2006, had defamed Richard Mask, a resident of Winter Garden. Guetzloe was ordered to pay $1.6 million in the suit.

MIAMI, Florida – John Connolly, a former FBI agent remains a convicted killer for slaying of a Miami Jai-Alai executive in 1982.
Without issuing a written opinion, the Third District of Appeal, upheld Wednesday the FBI agent’s 2008 conviction on murder he committed to John Callahan, whose corpse was found in a trunk at Miami International Airport.
Miami-Dade jurors convicted Connolly, 70, of second-degree murder with a firearm who leaked sensitive information against Callahan to infamous Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger and Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi, who were FBI informants. A hitman was dispatched by two who fatally shot Callahan.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida — Four people were arrested on misdemeanor charges for selling alcoholic beverages without a license. The arrest came after the city police and agents of the state’s Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco executed the search warrants late Friday night at a club police had been watching for the last two months.
Based on the police arrest reports, it was about 3:45 a.m. Dec. 2, when city police visited the Club Karibe in the 6500 block of Northwest Selvits Road, apparently an officer patrolling the area saw people drinking intoxicating beverages. Courtney Wayne Hazel, the bar owner, said the drinking was being done in a private party by the people who were renting the club.

BALTIMORE, Maryland – A car was found parked in an alley just less than a block away from Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, with a man inside suffering from a multiple gunshots wounds died Sunday.
At around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Baltimore Police were called to the 300 block of East 33rd Street and there they discovered the victim. At that time, the victim is still alive – in an alley behind the neatly kept rowhouses there. Though the police did not identify him, but he was said to be about in his 20’s and had been injured seriously.

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio – Samuel “Doug” Stacey is a walking miracle. He was shot three times Sept. 7 – once in a spine. He should have died or paralyzed with hunting arrows fired by his long time friend Harry “Bo” Spivey.
Instead, thanks to the trauma team at University Hospital, on Tuesday Stacey walked into court, there, he saw Spivey being sent to prison for 10 years for trying to kill him.
Spivey, 58, pleaded guilty Nov. 15 to attempted murder. Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert Ruehlman imposed the maximum sentence. “I don’t believe he shot me, period. Come on, he tried to kill me,” Stacey said.

San Antonio, Texas – The Texas Rangers and Bexar County sheriff’s deputies arrested 60-year old Ronnie Cain, who was the suburb’s chief administrative officer for 28 years before resigning in March, and his brother Gary, 53, at their homes on Thursday evening. The arrests came shortly after a Bexar County grand jury issued the multicount indictments. According to reports, an arrest warrant alleged the brothers “embezzled over $4 million” said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Linda Tomasini, quoting from the document.

BEAUMONT, Texas – Beaumont patrolmen soon to be carrying another tool to help fight criminality without firing their guns or using deadly force.
Beaumont City Council approved the 80 Tasers for purchase.
For 24 years in Beaumont Police Department service, Patrol Officer Dale Wisby knows the important of Taser. Each day of duty is different, and he never knew who or what he might be encounter.
“People are going to want something, need something. They’re gonna get injured or hurt, commit a crime, become a victim,” said Officer Wisby.
