NOC Profile

  • General interest
    • Highlights : Korea did not compete at the first Asian Games, but have appeared in every edition since making its debut in 1954. In that time Korea has only finished outside the top three of the medal table twice, in 1962 and 1974.

Korea will host the Games for a third time in 2014 in Incheon, after the 1986 Games in Seoul and the 2002 Games in Busan.

Shooter Park Byung-Taek has the second biggest medal collection in Asian Games history. His 19 medals, including five gold, were won between 1990 and 2010, and only Chinese shooter Wang Yifu has claimed more medals.

Despite only making his debut in 2006, swimmer Park Tae-Hwan has already amassed six gold medals - a number only matched by dressage rider Suh Jung-Kyun and archer Yang Chung-Hoon. Park Tae-Hwan's total haul of 14 medals for Korea is only beaten by Park Byung-Taek.
