GALLUP, N.M. (KRQE) –  A new FBI report shows the city of Gallup had the highest violent crime rate in New Mexico last year.

Gallup saw 463 violent crimes last year including murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. That’s an 11 percent increase from the year before and two times the rate of Albuquerque, the state’s largest city.

Violent crimes in the city of Albuquerque also went up, showing a 4 percent jump.

The most dangerous city in 2012 was Española, although this latest report did not include those rates.

It is the responsibility of each police department to submit their numbers each year to the FBI. KRQE News 13 put in several calls to Española police to see whether or not they submitted their numbers, but did not hear back.
