Dead Nation Online Co-op Confirmed

Today, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to confirm that Dead Nation does have an online co-op mode! You will be able to team up with your friends, either sharing the couch or via the PlayStation Network, and take on the undead invasion. Check out this new Know your Enemy trailer:

Originally, online co-op wasn’t going to be included as a launch feature as the schedule and resources didn’t allow it. However, after many late night testing sessions and long talks with Sony, we decided that this was a must-have feature and it would be unfair on you if we launched without it. At this point our coders went from 12 hour working days to 16 hour days, as well as weekends. Fortunately, I think what we came up works really well.

007 Dead Nation Online Co-op

The online co-op fully matches the offline experience. Enjoy the no-compromise co-op experience with hundreds of on-screen zombies, huge explosions and bloody entrails scattered everywhere, if you’re good enough! In addition to the coders working non-stop, the designers and artists felt it was only fair to throw themselves into the mix to create big gameplay levels with tons of replay value, adding a weapon upgrade system and cool weapons to bring a new tactical dimension to the gameplay.

Dead Nation Online Co-op

Dead Nation is released exclusively on the PSN later this year. Watch this space for further info…

divine1000 7 October, 2010 @ 5:22 pm   13

Two words, WOO & HOO!
PlayStation has been missing these top-down co-op games since Baldur’s Gate on the PS2, and now they’re all coming at once, Lara Croft, Alien Breed & Dead Nation. I loved playing these games with the GF, now they’re back. Perfect…
Dynamic theme & avatars too please?

danielmccue 7 October, 2010 @ 5:29 pm   14

looks amazing, now bring it out so i can buy it!!!

flamingcarrot 7 October, 2010 @ 5:29 pm   15

Well done guys. This game has just shifted from ‘probably buy’ to ‘must buy’. I am glad that you have been able to listen to feedback and introduce something that a lot of people have been asking for. Really looking forward to playing the game – any chance of a release date? ;)

    Ilari Kuittinen 7 October, 2010 @ 7:15 pm

It really has been challenging to add online co-op to a game like this featuring dozens of zombies, gallons of gore and exploding heads! We certainly knew from the beginning that the online co-op would be the thing to do, but the initial schedule didn´t allow us to do it.

I think it has been really beneficial that we have had time to work on the online co-op and create a unique zombie blaster Housemarque style!

Bloody_Marcel 7 October, 2010 @ 5:30 pm   16

I need this into my veins

BLEACH-Fan 7 October, 2010 @ 5:31 pm   17

When is it out so I can buy it!!! :D

Zookey500 7 October, 2010 @ 5:32 pm   18

Looks nice.

Demo? Or Trailer available?

Carnivius_Prime 7 October, 2010 @ 5:49 pm   19

good. Getting sick of games having multiplayer with no online mode to make up for when you ain’t got a friend local at the time. I play Alien Breed in 2 player online far more than offline and still find it annoying that the otherwise great SkyFighter and Shank have fun 2 player modes but no online. Bored senseless of zombies but having 2 player co op with online and the fact it’s by stardust people do make me interested in this.

X_Weapon 7 October, 2010 @ 6:24 pm   20

Seems quite fun (and with the online multiplayer it’s even better) :D

And remember a Demo. ;)

Paranoimia 7 October, 2010 @ 6:27 pm   21

Been looking forward to this for ages. The beta made me want it more.

I’ll be buying this, regardless of the price, I just hope there isn’t much longer to wait!

    Ilari Kuittinen 7 October, 2010 @ 7:18 pm

If you liked the beta already, I think you are REALLY going to like what we done during the past couple of months to finetune the gameplay.

mew_frenger 7 October, 2010 @ 6:45 pm   22

sweet. now im sold

Ilari Kuittinen 7 October, 2010 @ 6:59 pm   23

Hi guys! Thanks for the great feedback. We are also looking forward to finalize the game and putting some final touches and tweeks. We´ll confirm the release date as soon as possible.

Awesome! I want it now please!

KwietStorm 7 October, 2010 @ 7:34 pm   25

Thank you guys so much for putting in all the extra hours. I was really disappointed when I first heard online coop may not make it, but I appreciate you making it happen. Dont need a price, just need a release date. Been waiting for this forever.

KarvaNaama 7 October, 2010 @ 7:35 pm   26

The price is $14,99 for US? How about EU?

$14.99″

    Ilari Kuittinen 7 October, 2010 @ 7:39 pm

No confirmation on EU price yet and I don´t know that either. I would say that the price is going to be “worth it”, if you ask me. And you sort of did!

KarvaNaama 7 October, 2010 @ 7:53 pm   27

I’m definitely getting it Day One. Got to support support great finnish developers. You already made the best PSN game till date with Super Stardust HD. Dead Nation will only make your PSN dynasty even greater ;)

Nice move adding online co-op mode, looks great. Superdust HD was class so count me in.

vonhammer 7 October, 2010 @ 8:13 pm   29

@ Ilari

Hi,are the levels traditional A-B or area like burn zombie burn?

    Ilari Kuittinen 7 October, 2010 @ 9:44 pm

The game is level based where you go from A to B and have some secret areas added in to add variety.

djreplay 7 October, 2010 @ 8:35 pm   30

Looks good

looks great but if it cost more than £10-11 their will be no buy from me.

cthulhu85 7 October, 2010 @ 10:34 pm   32

This is a must! Can’t wait!! :D

Dare to say but dead nation has a lot of competition, dead rising 2, red dead redemption and cod: black ops, if they release it in a couple of weeks, it may sell but after that, I’m not really sure?

strazer_net 7 October, 2010 @ 11:30 pm   34

I am so excited to hear this! I love you guys!!

makingdamage 8 October, 2010 @ 1:56 am   35

Is this game scary? I like scary games.

TehPhilosopher 8 October, 2010 @ 10:32 am   36

Ilari, regarding your quote:

“At this point our coders went from 12 hour working days to 16 hour days, as well as weekends”

As a CEO of a gaming company, is that really the message you want to send to potential employees? You are also trivializing the effort of your employees in getting the game ready by joking about the hours they put in. Gaming media is full of reports how badly coders are treated, the hours they put in, and this coming from a Finnish company (I’m Finnish) is not something I’d expect.

    Ilari Kuittinen 8 October, 2010 @ 1:08 pm

I guess you are taking this note a bit too literally. And besides, we CEO’s aren’t that good with numbers I guess!

Nice.

I’d gladly take online co-op over online multiplayer anyday. Glad to see that someone out there is listening.

Hi, I’ve been impressed with the game but wasn’t going to buy it. Now that it has online coop I’m definitely getting this. I believe any game is just more enjoyable playing with friends and this is why online coop is important to me. Well done on the hard work, I’m sure this will give the game a sales boost.

xxSamuraiGirlxx 8 October, 2010 @ 12:46 pm   40

i love online coop. =D

this will be a day one purchase for me!

…as long as you keep your word lol, crystal dynamics said lara croft and guardian of light would launch with online coop and it wasn’t, so i didn’t buy it.

So glad to hear it’s getting online co-op.
Thanks for the hard work guys, I’ll be getting this as soon as it comes out :)

BalramRules 9 October, 2010 @ 1:26 pm   42
