‘Adventure Time': ‘Finn the Human’ DVD Review

Adventure-Time-Finn-the-Human-Cover

Now available!

Spoilers ahead, so beware…

That’s right, fellow “Adventure Time” fans, “Adventure Time”: “Finn the Human” is now available on DVD. It even comes with a free Finn backpack, like he wears on the show (now I just need the hat and the sword, and I’ll be all set). I know that I’ve recently reviewed another “Adventure Time” DVD, but I was glad I got “Finn the Human,” because Season 4 ended on a bit of a cliffhanger.

At the end of Season 4, Jake and Finn’s adventurer friend Billy led them on a quest to get jewels of power from the various royal figures of Ooo, including Hot Dog Princess, the Ice King, and even Princess Bubblegum. In fact, Finn trusts Billy so much that he wouldn’t tell PB what he needed the jewel for, and she cut him with scissors.

It was intense.

But once he gives the jewels to Billy, he learns that Billy has been taken over by the Lich! The Lich uses the jewels and the Enchiridion and opens a portal to Prismo’s Time Room. Finn and Jake go in after him, and then “The Lich” ends.

After finishing the episode, I had so many questions, but I’m happy to say that the “Finn the Human” DVD answers them. I won’t spoil the individual episodes for you, because I want you to enjoy them as much as I have if you haven’t seen them, but I will say that they involve an alternate dimension where the Mushroom War never happened, and where Finn has a human family. “Finn the Human” and “Jake the Dog” were both really good episodes, as they were funny, touching, a bit creepy, but good all around.

Other great episodes from the DVD include “Blade of Grass,” where Finn gets an amazing/cursed grass blade that he can never remove, but at the same time, lets him cut the image of his face into almost anything; “City of Thieves,” where Finn learns how difficult it is to keep true to one’s self if everyone around you does wrong; “Conquest of Cuteness,” in which our boys try to humor the megalomaniacal King of the Cuties (whose army of Cuties will literally fall to pieces the moment they try to invade something); and “Furniture & Meat,” where an enormous amount of gold goes to Jake’s head, and he has to learn that just because you can buy almost anything you want, it doesn’t mean you should.

This, for example, is not a good way to spend your money.

There are more episodes than these, of course, 16 in all, and they’re all pretty fantastic (as is to be expected with any “Adventure Time” collection). A few of them are repeats from other DVDs, but I found enough new stuff to keep me entertained. Plus, that whole 3-part episode with the Lich, man. That was heavy.

If you’re an “Adventure Time” fan yourself, or you know one, then pick up a copy of “Finn the Human” today. It’d make a great stocking stuffer this holiday season.

If I forgot to mention your favorite episode, or if you want to talk about Prismo (that guy is cool), be sure to drop me a line, either in the comment box below, or on Twitter @ColinOBoyle. And, as always, stay Geeky, my friends.
