U.S. Team Announces Roster for FIL World Championship
BALTIMORE, Feb. 5, 2014 - Following a tryout process that included 98 players and spanned seven months, US Lacrosse has named the U.S. Men's National Team 30-man roster for the FIL World Championship, July 10-19 in Denver.
The team was selected from a 51-player training roster that last took the field at Champion Challenge, a US Lacrosse event, in Orlando on Jan. 26 for a Blue-White exhibition game, which has been chronicled in this week's all-access series, "Road to the Rockies: Making Team USA" on The Lacrosse Network.
Four players return from the gold medal-winning 2010 FIL World Championship squad that defeated Canada 12-10 in Manchester, England, to earn the United States' ninth world title. Returners include attackmen Ned Crotty and Brendan Mundorf (All-World) as well as midfielders Paul Rabil (MVP and All-World) and Max Seibald (All-World). Defensive midfielder Kyle Harrison played for the U.S. team in 2006. Defenseman Joe Fletcher (Loyola '14) is the lone collegian selected to the team.
Team USA will reconvene next for training camp in Connecticut (location TBA) June 22-26 concluding with a match-up against a squad of MLL All-Stars in the MLL All-Star Game on June 26 at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. From there, the team heads to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., for a second training camp July 6-9 before beginning its world title defense in Denver on July 10. Ultimately, 23 of the 30 players will be selected to the active roster for the duration of the World Championship.
"I can't say enough good things about all of the guys who have been a part of this process," said Team USA head coach Richie Meade.
"Both the guys who are continuing on and the ones who aren't have been incredible on and off the field since we started working on this process a year and a half ago. You could make a good case for each of them to be on this list, but we are really excited about the group we've put together. We're ready to move from the evaluation phase into the preparation phase as we look ahead to Denver."
The 30-man roster by position with professional teams, collegiate alma maters, and previous U.S. team experience noted:

How do you not take Stephen Peyser ??? Do it all midfielder, play offense, great D, face off, gb's and can fill up the net. Could have been the Swiss Army knife for this years team

Speak to me about the FO Chris Eck. That position is the key to the USA/Canada game. Possessions, possessions, possessions. I was at London on 2006; USA couldn't buy a face-off. Tried 3 different players to no avail.....
Is Eck the only player on the team with FO skills? Say it ain't so.

What is Eck's all time% vs Snider? That is where the US Canada game may be decided.
No Drew Westervelt? To me he is one of the top all around players the US has to offer, solid in both MLL & NLL

Re: U.S. Team Announces Roster for FIL World Championship
IMO should have cut one of the goalies loose and added another face-off guy
I know Harrison is slotted to play defensive midfield but is he the only other person that can take draws if need be/Eck is ineffective/gets gassed?

Re: U.S. Team Announces Roster for FIL World Championship
Final roster of 23 will only have two goalies. In addition to Eck, Snider and Harrison also take face-offs.
I would imagine not more than 5-6 attackmen as well unless they have people who can run both positions.
6 poles including LSM would be the max there as well.
and 1, maybe 2 SSDMs. max.
Looks like the youth movement may be a signal that USA intends to run both Iroquois and Canucks into the ground with their superior depth. Richie Meade signature?

Can only help us in the long run especially if "the beast" makes the team. Shoulder is not 100% so we will see

Re: U.S. Team Announces Roster for FIL World Championship
BALTIMORE - At the conclusion of a tryout process that included 98 players and spanned 11 months, US Lacrosse has named the U.S. Men's National Team final 23-man roster for the FIL World Championship, presented by Trusted Choice, July 10-19 in Commerce City, Colo.
The team was selected from a 31-player roster that attended training camp last week in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and competed in Thursday's MLL All-Star Game at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge, Mass.
Four players return from the gold medal-winning 2010 FIL World Championship squad that defeated Canada 12-10 in Manchester, England, to earn the United States' ninth world title. Team USA will next head to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., for a final training camp July 6-9 before beginning its world title defense in Denver on July 10.
“These men were selected from a group of 52 that participated on Orlando and 31 that participated this past week, so we feel this is a very solid team that will represent our country well in Denver,” said Team USA head coach Richie Meade. “Several of the men who have been part of this process distinguished themselves but weren't chosen for this team. We're very humbled to represent our country and endeavor to do so to the best of our collective ability.”

Disappointed that Karalunas didn't make final cut, he is really fun to watch and a game changing LSM.

+1 fun to watch and very effective, I guess CTs aren't part of the game anymore
obviously a very strong team but not the most exciting team that could have been picked

No Manley at defense huh?
Seems like he is playing the best Defense in the MLL and looked good enough in the All Star game? That's a shame.

The thing Team Canada's management did was put a team together. USA has great players - maybe finding great teammates should be a greater priority than worrying about who the best players are.
