Mustafa Kamal, the current president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), was nominated for the post of the vice-president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the 2012-14 term. The ICC accepted Kamal’s nomination, and he will take over as the ICC President in 2014-15.

Kamal was jointly nominated by the BCB and the Pakistan Cricket Board, during the ICC Board meeting, which will conclude on Wednesday (October 10).

The meeting is the fourth and final one for 2012 for the ICC Executive Board, and an earlier release from the ICC stated that “the Board will discuss a wide range of topics and receive reports from Board committees and the Chief Executives’ Committee, which also met in Colombo in September”.

A statement from the ICC confirmed that “the Board accepted the joint nomination of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) of AHM Mustafa Kamal to the role of ICC Vice-President for 2012-14 and then subsequently as ICC President 2014-15.”

The statement added that Kamal would have to step down as the head of the BCB, following his successful nomination. “As a consequence of his nomination Mr Kamal will now be required to stand down as the President of the BCB.”

The ICC Board consists of the president or chairman from each of the ten Full Members plus three Associate Member representatives. Also present at ICC Board meetings is the ICC President, who chairs proceedings, and the ICC Chief Executive.
