High Water
High Water
Scott's proudly standing beside the bridge he built a couple of years ago.
The water passes under the bridge rapidly, but mostly under control...
The water level is usually well below the crossmember on the support leg.  The first three pictures are from later in the summer (July).
A lot of water runs down this sometimes docile creek during the spring runoff and annual snow melt.  Before the bridge was constructed, it was almost impossible to access the property at this time of year.
The high water's really pounding the bridge here and brings a lot more force with it.  It's not a problem unless a tree comes down and gets caught up in the bridge.  We can keep an eye on that with our new (soon to be online) bridge cam.
As the temperatures rise, water rushes off the mountains on its journey to the Arctic Ocean down McDame Creek which runs into the Dease River, then into the Liard River at Lower Post, and eventually running into the  Mackenzie River in the Northwest Territories on its journey north.
