Hibernians aim at extending unbeaten run

balzan-mosta140921pzcAfter moving fifteen points clear thanks to a 3-1 win over Valletta last week, Hibernians will be aiming for a fifteenth win in sixteen matches as they take on Pietà Hotspurs in one of the four matches in programme on Saturday. A win which would enable them to extend their unbeaten run on top the BOV Premier League table.

Balzan and Mosta will battle out for fourth place while Naxxar Lions take on Tarxien Rainbows and Zebbug Rangers face Floriana in two clashes from the lower part of the table.

BOV-First-DivisionLucky Omeruo scored twice as Pembroke Athleta moved at the top of the BOV First Division table with a 3-0 win over Zurrieq at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

Omeruo put Pembroke ahead on 16 minutes, Lyden Micallef doubled the score on 33 minutes and Omeruo sealed the issue with a third goal ten minutes in the second half.

Malta climbs one place in FIFA Ranking

bulgaria-malta141115pzcMalta ended 2014 in the 147th place in the last FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking for 2014. Therefore Malta climbed another place after climbing nine places nine month thanks to the 1-1 draw with Bulgaria.

However among the other European countries, Malta is still ranked third from bottom, ahead of San Marino (179, up 1) and Andorra (201). Lying just ahead of Malta are Moldova (121, down 1), Georgia (125, up 1), Luxembourg (128, up 1), Liechtenstein (132, down 2), Azerbaijan (135) and Kazakhstan (139).

Six-month ban for Noel Coleiro

MFAPietà Hotspurs coach Noel Coleiro was handed a six-month ban following an argument at the end of the BOV Premier League match between the Hotspurs and Floriana last Saturday as the two sets of players were heading towards the dressing room.

Coleiro was reported for head-butting Steve Pisani during an argument between the two. The argument sparked a fight between a number of players and officials from the two teams until the police intervened to calm the situation.

referees-uniforms2013After losing one referee and two assistant referees from the FIFA Panel, Malta will once again have four referees and eight assistant referees following the inclusion of referee Adrian Azzopardi and assistant referees Jurgen Spiteri, Duncan Sultana and Roberto Vella. Meanwhile referees Clayton Pisani and Alan Mario Sant were promoted to Category One and Category Two.

Marco Borg, Clayton Pisani and Alan Mario Sant were confirmed as FIFA Referees, Alan Camilleri, William Debattista, Mitchell Scerri, Edward Spiteri and Ingmar Spiteri as FIFA Assistant Referees, Esther Azzopardi as FIFA Woman Referee, Franco Cachia as FIFA Futsal Referee, Stefan Pace and Jude Amin Utulu as FIFA Beach Soccer Referees.

Coaching scholarship for coaches in women’s football

girls-festival-xmas2012Given the lack of qualified female coaches working in women’s football, providing an adequate supply of females in this sector is without doubt a challenge that many countries face.

The FIFA Women’s Football Survey 2014 showed that the number of female coaches in football is very low, with only 7% of registered coaches from the 177 associations that participated being female, while the results also showed that successful member associations in women’s football have a higher level of participation of women at coaching levels. On the other hand, the UEFA Women’s Football Survey 2013-2014 showed that coaching in women’s football remains dominated by male coaches, with 78% of the coaches of the national Under-17, Under-19 and senior teams being male. Within most national associations, male coaches outnumber female coaches.
