PROGRAM: "PDFs in the Indexing Process - Maximizing Your Efficiency"
Presented by: Connie Binder
Increase your indexing accuracy and productivity, reduce frustrations, and learn some seemingly magical tips and techniques.
We’ll start by looking at what you can do with the free Acrobat Reader, including find, advanced searching across one and multiple files, setting preferences, copying and pasting, dragging and dropping, keyboard shortcuts, page navigation, highlighting, commenting, and a few methods for rapidly getting dense text into your indexing software.
Then we’ll explore Margaret Berson’s Megabit Macros (for Windows users – sorry Mac people). This is a downloadable program (for a fee) that works with CINDEX, MACREX, and SKY, and provides a number of options to move selected text from a PDF into your indexing software. The macros feature some really slick formatting options – name inversion, italicization, parentheses, and copying a chunk of headings into separate records (simultaneously inverting the names, if you want). The macros also remove extraneous spaces, line breaks, and punctuation.
We’ll finish with some amazing things you can do if you purchase Acrobat Standard or Professional. You’ll learn to add bookmarks, split full books into separate chapters, combine separate chapters into one file, renumber pages, split two-page spreads into single pages, sign documents, and add watermarks to help you keep things straight when dealing with second editions and revised pages.
